Job description

Full-time. $18.00 an hour. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama medical, prescription, dental and vision insurance. Vacation and holidays. 401k retirement.
The purpose of this position is to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of US SPACE & ROCKET CENTER buildings, facilities, and grounds not covered under contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

Custodial Systems

  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Custodial Manager for assisting in the development & coordination of project work.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Custodial Manager for the cleanliness and appearance of Rocket Center buildings, facilities, and grounds. Including, but not limited to, the accurate and timely completion of the following duties:
    • Sweep, wax, vacuum, and shampoo floors throughout the Rocket Center.
    • Clean office and common area windows.
    • Clean and dust Rocket Center internal and external exhibits.
    • Collect trash and refuse from offices and grounds.
  • Move and transport various equipment, materials, and waste accurately and timely.
  • Promptly help order supplies to ensure that the Custodial Department has adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
  • Meet or exceed legal, industry, and professional standards for the use & disposal of cleaning chemicals.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Custodial Manager for the safe and efficient operation of the lift loft & forklift.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Custodial Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

Custodial Systems Organization and Staffing

  • Ensure that Custodial staff receive timely, relevant, and appropriate training.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks assigned to Custodial staff.
  • Ensure that Custodial staff complies with all Rocket Center policies and procedures as well as departmental guidelines.
  • Ensure that staffing schedules optimize productivity and comply with all contractual obligations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

  • High school or GED.

Required Experience

  • 12 - 24 months custodial experience with some supervisory experience (3-6 months) required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be detail-oriented and well-organized.ย  Must have good verbal communication skills to effectively interact with and direct employees' work.ย  Must have a valid driverโ€™s license.

Physical Requirements

ย This position has the following special requirements:

  • Walking, and climbing (stairs) extensively to clean areas.
  • Carrying, and lifting supplies and items weighing up to 40 pounds to waist height.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching to store/retrieve supplies, cleaning high, and low areas, behind exhibits, etc.
  • Sight, wrist movements, feeling to inspect areas for cleanliness, to use cleaning tools.
  • Talking, and hearing to communicate with employees and guests.
  • This position involves working in a climate-controlled building environment that is exposed to noisy, dusty areas and is subject to hazards related to the profession.
  • This position may involve working outside in various weather conditions.
  • This position deals with employees and guests who interact with assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Expected Hours of Work

  • 8am-5pm any day of the week.
