Job Summary
The ECA Robotics Sponsor for grades 4–8 is responsible for organizing, supervising, and leading the school’s robotics program for elementary and middle school students. This position provides students with hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the design, building, programming, and testing of robotics projects. The sponsor fosters teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking while preparing students for robotics competitions and related events in alignment with school and corporation guidelines.
Essential Functions
- Organize, supervise, and lead all aspects of the grades 4–8 robotics program.
- Recruit and encourage student participation in robotics activities.
- Plan and conduct regular meetings, practices, and instructional sessions.
- Teach students basic and advanced concepts in engineering, coding, design, and robotics systems.
- Guide students in the design, construction, programming, and testing of robots and related projects.
- Prepare students for robotics competitions, exhibitions, and STEM-related events.
- Coordinate event registration, scheduling, transportation requests, and competition logistics.
- Supervise students during meetings, build sessions, and competitions, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior at all times.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving, and positive sportsmanship.
- Maintain and manage robotics equipment, materials, tools, and supplies.
- Ensure safe use of tools, technology, and equipment in accordance with school safety guidelines.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, staff, and administration regarding program expectations, schedules, and events.
- Maintain accurate records related to participation, inventory, and competition requirements.
- Manage program resources and assist with budget tracking as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
Qualifications
- Valid Indiana teaching license preferred but not required unless otherwise specified by district policy.
- Experience in STEM education, robotics, engineering, computer science, or related fields preferred.
- Ability to code or willingness to learn student-friendly programming platforms used in robotics programs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage elementary and middle school students.
- Ability to supervise students in both classroom and competition environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Experience with robotics platforms (such as LEGO robotics, VEX, or similar systems) preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to supervise students in hands-on, active learning environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist students during robotics activities.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 25–50 pounds.
- Ability to travel with students to competitions and events as required.
