How much do robotics mentor jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 4, 2026, the average yearly pay for robotics mentor in the United States is $96,000.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $90,000.00 and $102,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Robotics Mentor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Mentor, you need a solid understanding of robotics principles, programming (such as Python or C++), and hands-on experience with robotics kits or platforms, often supported by a degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with robotics development tools, simulation software, and relevant certifications like FIRST or VEX Robotics coaching credentials is highly valuable. Effective mentorship requires strong communication, patience, and the ability to inspire and guide students in problem-solving. These skills ensure you can effectively teach, support student growth, and foster a collaborative and innovative learning environment.

What is the difference between Robotics Mentor vs Robotics Instructor?

AspectRobotics MentorRobotics Instructor
CredentialsTypically requires engineering or robotics background, certifications varyOften requires teaching certifications or educational credentials
Work EnvironmentMentors work in educational, community, or extracurricular settings, guiding studentsInstructors usually work in schools, training centers, or workshops, delivering structured lessons
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by educational programs, community organizations, and robotics clubsEmployed by schools, training institutes, and educational organizations
Comparison Search IntentPeople seeking mentorship or guidance in robotics projectsIndividuals looking for formal robotics teaching or classes

Robotics Mentors focus on guiding and supporting students in robotics projects, often in informal or extracurricular settings. Robotics Instructors provide structured lessons and curriculum in educational institutions. Both roles require technical knowledge, but their environments and objectives differ.

What are Robotics Mentors?

Robotics Mentors are experienced individuals who guide and support students or teams in learning and applying robotics concepts. They often help with designing, building, and programming robots, as well as fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills. Mentors may assist with preparing for robotics competitions, providing technical advice, and encouraging creativity. Their goal is to inspire and educate participants in the field of robotics.

What are some typical challenges a Robotics Mentor might face when guiding student teams, and how can they be addressed?

As a Robotics Mentor, one common challenge is balancing technical guidance with encouraging student-led problem solving. Mentors often need to support teams through complex issues like troubleshooting hardware or coding errors without providing direct solutions, fostering resilience and independent thinking. Additionally, managing diverse skill levels and maintaining team motivation throughout a project can be demanding. Building strong communication, setting clear expectations, and encouraging collaboration among students are effective strategies to overcome these challenges.

Job description

We're redefining how robots are deployed. Our platform enables users to simulate, test, and optimize entire robotic systems in parallel. By removing the barriers that have kept advanced robotics out of reach for all but the largest players, we're ushering in a new era of manufacturing-one where mass reshoring is not only viable, but inevitable.
As our platform expands from direct robot control toward a cloud-based system for simulation, optimization, and validation of factory workflows, validation becomes a critical engineering discipline. This role is responsible for ensuring that our products work reliably not only at the software level, but within the real-world workflows, environments, and integrations used by our customers.
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role leads the company's validation strategy across robotics workflows, simulation systems, cloud infrastructure, and customer environments. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical depth and strong team-building skills.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end validation strategy
  • Define validation practices across robotics workflows, simulation systems, cloud services, and customer environments
  • Ensure the product behaves reliably in real-world industrial and automation scenarios
  • Drive continuous improvement in validation coverage, tooling, and efficiency
Lead automation-heavy validation systems
  • Expand automated validation integrated into CI systems and engineering workflows
  • Balance automation with hands-on workflow validation and customer-environment testing
  • Improve system-level validation across multi-component software environments
Partner closely with Engineering and Product Operations
  • Work directly with Engineering teams to validate complex integrations and workflows
  • Collaborate with Product Operations / Application Engineering to understand customer deployments and real-world usage
  • Translate customer workflows into repeatable validation scenarios
Build and lead the Validation organization
  • Lead and grow a team of Validation Engineers and SQA Engineers
  • Mentor and develop engineers across both system-level validation and software quality practices
  • Establish a culture of technical depth, ownership, and collaboration
  • Operate as a player/coach, contributing directly to validation efforts where needed

Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years experience in robotics, industrial automation, simulation systems, or related technical domains
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and building software validation, SQA, or test automation teams in complex technical environments
  • Hands-on experience with automation-heavy validation systems and CI/CD workflows
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to understand complex multi-component environments
  • Ability to work closely with Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams
  • Strong communication and technical leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with robotics simulation and digital twin environments
  • Experience validating cloud-connected software platforms
  • Familiarity with robotic programming workflows and industrial automation systems
  • Experience interacting directly with customers to understand deployment environments and workflows
  • Background spanning both robotics engineering and software validation
Travel / Location
  • Hybrid role based in the Greater Boston area, ability to be onsite at our corporate headquarters several days per week
  • Periodic travel for customer visits, internal on-sites, and industry events
  • Frequent collaboration with engineering and product teams in-office preferred

All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future.
Benefits
  • Competitive Healthcare Coverage
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Commuting Expenses Covered
  • Telecommunications Stipend
  • 401k Match
  • HSA Employer Contribution
