We are seeking a Design Assurance Engineer (based in Elgin, Illinois) to ensure product development quality for HARTING connectors and custom cable assembly solutions. The Engineer will partner with the product development team as it continues to drive connectivity advancements alongside customers in data center, electric vehicles, automation, robotics, energy, and transportation, in our growing breadth of R&D projects and will be at the forefront of a growing testing lab.
Reporting to the Director of Quality, a successful Design Assurance Engineer will be a key accountability stakeholder in our Product Development quality process.
To succeed in this role, you will be highly driven to:
  • Perform quality planning in new product development and life cycle management projects.
  • Supporting the project team with relevant information (e.g., customer complaints, internal complaints of similar products and processes).
  • Creation and release of quality documents (e.g., control plan, inspection instructions, inspection cards, process releases)
  • Definition and release of test equipment.
  • Participation in special projects: Relocations and duplications, new production technologies, new production facilities.
  • Moderation of D + P FMEAs in the project / series (FMEA moderator).
  • Editing of internal and external complaints during pre-series production.
  • PPA creation, planning in the team and completeness check of release documents.
  • Execution and documentation of the milestone gates incl. release and quality relevant compliance of the development process.
  • Conclusiveness and plausibility of the milestone gate results and contents as well as the assessment of risks for the project continuation in case of deviations.
  • Ensuring and improving the quality of the results of the project phases for risk minimization.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of (product and process) quality within the project phases, interruption of project continuation if necessary, and derivation of necessary measures.
  • Checking the completeness of the requirement / functional specification and the design verification in cooperation with Project Management incl. formal release.
  • Content evaluation of the risks of the sample status of the components for type testing with Product Development and Industrial Engineering.
  • PPA overall release component and end device release.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience to thrive in this role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Experience gained in an Electronic/Electrical/Electro-Mechanical environment
  • Able to troubleshoot failures.
  • 3-5 years of Product Development, Quality, Production Testing or Test Lab experience.
  • Knowledge, service and application experience in the following areas preferred:
    • ISO 9001, FMEA, Control Plans, PPAPs, First Article Inspections, Capability Analysis, Statistical Quality Control, Statistical Process Control, Root Cause Analysis and Problem-Solving Methodologies, Six Sigma Green Belt
    • Universal Testing Machine, Environmental Chamber, CMM, Oscilloscopes, Data Loggers, Hi Pot Test, Ingress Test, Programmable Controllers, Soft PCs, Industrial Networks (Ethernet, Fieldbus), RFID, Vision, Sensors, Servo Drives and systems Temperature and Process Controllers.
  • Must be able to travel 5-10% of time (including international)
  • Experience in Injection Molding a plus

Compensation

  • HARTING's Total Compensation Structure includes a Base Salary and Bonus Percentage.
  • Competitive base salary: $90,000 - $110,000 (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location).
  • This role is eligible for a 5% discretionary annual bonus.
