New Tech Global is looking for a Project Electical Engineer for a client in Hanover, Maryland.
As a Project Electrical Engineer (industry equivalent: Electrical Engineer 4), serve as a vital member of an aerospace and defense engineering team-an engineering center of excellence within a dynamic, global enterprise. Within the organization's advanced technologies group, you will be responsible for performing diverse activities associated with the development and implementation of complex power and control systems for unique underwater robotic and electromechanical systems, helping solve customers' toughest challenges-typically for the U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government Department of Defense customers.
Qualifications
Essential- Bachelor of Science or advanced degree from an accredited university in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field with an electrical concentration (e.g., Computer Engineering or Robotics Engineering). Significant commensurate experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 7 years of practical technical experience in the electrical engineering process, including concept development, analysis, simulation, design, drafting, assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and testing of complex electrical, electromechanical, and automated/robotic systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense security clearance (active clearance preferred but not required).
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred - Experience selecting and integrating high?tech Commercial Off?the?Shelf (COTS) equipment, including designing required interfaces.
- Strong working knowledge of selecting and sizing electrical and electronic components and wiring devices such as signal conditioning, power supplies, control and switching devices, SSRs, safety devices, terminal blocks, connectors, DIN rail components, wiring, cabling, and marshalling.
- Experience with embedded microprocessor or single?board computer (SBC) based control systems, including defining signals, sensors, actuators, and selecting appropriate I/O; ability to design custom solutions when COTS options are insufficient.
- Experience designing and integrating data communication systems including Ethernet, USB, RS?232, RS?422, RS?485, SPI, I2C, CAN, and associated protocols and media, particularly in high?noise environments.
- Experience designing DC power systems and calculating system power and energy requirements.
- Experience with wiring, grounding, shielding, and EMI/noise mitigation practices.
- Strong electrical drafting skills, including accurate creation and interpretation of schematics, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, block diagrams, and system cabling diagrams.
- Proficiency with standard electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, communication analyzers, hipot testers, spectrum analyzers, CTDR, OTDR, and optical power meters.
- Experience with advanced CAD, simulation, and analysis tools (e.g., Altium Designer, SPICE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, MathCAD, MATLAB).
- Proficiency with standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present engineering concepts to both technical teams and customers.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the marine industry (surface or underwater), including ROVs, AUVs, sonar systems, and related robotic/electromechanical platforms.
- Working knowledge of industry, professional, and military standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, ISO, NEMA, NEC, MIL, etc.).
- Strong hands?on technician skills (assembly, wiring, soldering, and cabling).
- Experience with fiber optics.
- Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) design.
- Experience with brushless motor drives, robotics, and automation.
- Experience designing, analyzing, and tuning closed?loop control systems.
- Experience with low? to medium?voltage single? and three?phase power systems (120, 240, 480, 3000+ VAC).
- Experience applying machine safety systems and standards.
- Experience with programming languages or scripting.
- Ability and flexibility to travel occasionally (typically one to two weeks at a time), domestically or internationally, including offshore vessel deployments.
