What you will be doing!

  • Supporting the design, development, integration, and implementation of robotic, autonomous, and remotely operated systems.
  • Evaluating and supporting the selection of robotic and automation technologies to address operational challenges.
  • Configuring and supporting mobile robotic platforms, aerial systems, sensors, and specialized robotic solutions for field applications.
  • Developing, maintaining, and improving software applications, control systems, navigation capabilities, mapping tools, and data acquisition systems using modern robotics technologies.
  • Evaluating emerging robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, and autonomous system technologies to support innovation initiatives.
  • Designing and developing proof-of-concept solutions, prototype systems, teleoperation interfaces, and human-machine interaction tools.
  • Supporting digital twin, simulation, visualization, and virtual environment projects.
  • Supporting the planning, deployment, commissioning, testing, and validation of robotic systems in operational environments.
  • Developing deployment procedures, operating instructions, and technical documentation for robotic technologies.
  • Analyzing operational and sensor data to identify performance improvements and support future technology applications.
  • Performing engineering assessments, technical evaluations, project planning, and reporting activities.
  • Collaborating with operations, engineering, environmental remediation, science and technology, facility management, vendors, contractors, universities, and technology partners.
  • Supporting training activities, technical documentation development, and knowledge-sharing initiatives related to robotic technologies.
  • Presenting technical information and project results to customers, partners, and stakeholders when required.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a recognized university.
    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or the ability to obtain registration, is considered an asset.
  • Experience
    • Less than two (2) years of relevant experience.
    • Experience gained through academic projects, co-op placements, internships, research activities, or project work related to robotics, automation, software development, or systems integration.
    • Experience with one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:
      • Robotics Operating System (ROS/ROS2).
      • Python and/or C++.
      • Autonomous navigation.
      • Computer vision.
      • Sensor fusion.
      • Machine learning and artificial intelligence applications.
      • Teleoperation systems.
      • Mobile robotics.
      • SLAM and mapping technologies.
      • Embedded systems.
      • Digital twin technologies.
      • Data visualization and processing.
      • UAVs and autonomous platforms.
      • Knowledge of radiological operations, remote sensing, or nuclear facility environments is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to robotics, automation, software development, or systems integration projects through academic, research, co-op, or project experience.
    • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
    • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in developing technical solutions to complex challenges.
    • Proven ability to learn, adapt, and apply emerging technologies in a rapidly evolving environment.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and collaborative project environments.
    • Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
    • Proven ability to work independently on assigned technical tasks while seeking guidance when appropriate.
    • Demonstrated ability to support the development, integration, testing, and deployment of technical solutions.
    • Working knowledge of robotic, autonomous, remote-operated, and digital technologies and their industrial applications.
    • Demonstrated understanding of decommissioning, environmental remediation, waste management, or nuclear technology applications is considered an asset.
    • Working knowledge of safety-critical or highly regulated environments is considered an asset.
    • Awareness of emerging trends in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, and remote handling technologies.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
  • This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
