A leading Global Biotech Company is seeking a Robotics Automation Engineer (Research and Early Development) who will apply diversified knowledge of design principles, practices and implementation in complex systems and assignments. General responsibilities include concept generation, prototyping, detailed design and testing to assess performance against project objectives. They will work as part of an agile research engineering team, making independent decisions, exercising technical judgment to achieve generally defined project goals as well as iterating designs based on feedback and user testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced engineering knowledge to research projects, typically related to process automation and integration.
  • Participate in defining new components, products or processes, typically for pathology lab applications.
  • Create potentially patentable components for systems, or processes.
  • Receive general direction and exercise considerable discretion as to work details.
  • Perform simulations, analyze and experiment to test hypotheses related to project outcomes.
  • Design, build and test prototype hardware and software systems to achieve defined goals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of project results to others; present data to diverse audiences.
  • Participate in project planning as part of a cross functional agile technical team.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a directly related discipline + 8 years of related experience

OR

  • MS degree in directly related discipline + 4 years of related experience;

OR

  • PhD degree in directly related discipline + 2 years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of principles and concepts of robotic/mechatronic engineering, motion control, sensing and coordinate systems.
  • Experience of hands-on assembly and of robotics/automation systems.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical and software prototyping.
  • Experience with robot software (preferably ABB RobotStudio).
  • Experience with motion control systems (stepper, servo control, encoders, feedback).
  • Experience with machine vision for object detection and/or robot guidance.
  • Experience with electronic control (PID control, PLC, industrial control.)
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (profibus, ethercat, profinet, rs-485, etc.)
  • Experience with CAD software (preferred, preferably SolidWorks).
  • Experience of the diagnostic industry / pathology lab (preferred).
  • Experience with industrial networks (switch, fortinet, routers, TCP/IP) (preferred)
  • Experience with robotic calibration through machine vision (fiducials, AruCO tags, April tags, etc) (preferred).
