Automation and PLC Engineer

In this role you will be responsible for

Overview: As an Automation Controls Engineer at Autoliv, you will be at the forefront of designing and optimizing advanced manufacturing systems. You’ll collaborate across engineering and production teams to develop, program, and maintain high-performance automation solutions using cutting-edge robotics and control technologies. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking engineer passionate about smart manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and scalable automation. Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, including robotics, PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems.

• Program and integrate industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Yamaha) for material handling, assembly, and inspection tasks.

• Develop and maintain PLC logic using modern platforms such as Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000).

• Troubleshoot and optimize machine control systems to improve reliability, throughput, and safety.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define automation standards and ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements.

• Utilize simulation and modeling tools to validate control strategies and robotic paths before deployment.

• Implement and support industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and OPC UA.

• Integrate vision systems, barcode scanners, and sensor arrays for intelligent automation and quality control.

What is required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.

• Proficiency in programming and configuring industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, iRVision.).

• Strong understanding of control networks and protocols: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, RS232/RS485.

• Experience with servo systems, motion controllers, and analog/digital I/O integration.

• Demonstrated ability to solve complex control and automation challenges using structured problem-solving techniques.

• Experience developing and adhering to automation standards and documentation practices.

• Knowledge of safety systems including functional safety, risk assessments, and safety PLCs (e.g., GuardLogix).
