Job description

At Serve Robotics, weโ€™re reimagining how things move in cities. Our personable sidewalk robot is our vision for the future. Itโ€™s designed to take deliveries away from congested streets, make deliveries available to more people, and benefit local businesses.

The Serve fleet has been delighting merchants, customers, and pedestrians along the way in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago while doing commercial deliveries. Weโ€™re looking for talented individuals who will grow robotic deliveries from surprising novelty to efficient ubiquity.

Who We Are

We are tech industry veterans in software, hardware, and design who are pooling our skills to build the future we want to live in. We are solving real-world problems leveraging robotics, machine learning and computer vision, among other disciplines, with a mindful eye towards the end-to-end user experience. Our team is agile, diverse, and driven. We believe that the best way to solve complicated dynamic problems is collaboratively and respectfully.

As a Staff Systems Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that our robot is safe, robust, performant, and satisfies market/customer needs. You will own the decomposition of requirements, architectures, and specifications of an autonomous last-mile delivery robot, from high-level system requirements and architecture all the way to low-level component selection criteria and performance budgets. You will serve as the glue of the organization, working across many teams and disciplines to help orchestrate the development of a complex system by breaking high-level goals down into actionable information across various functions.

Responsibilitiesย

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to decompose system functions, behaviors, and features into actionable engineering requirements and specifications for an autonomous last-mile delivery robot

  • Facilitate the development of actionable metrics to evaluate the performance of components, subsystems, and systems throughout the robot, both in the lab and in the field

  • Develop frameworks and facilitate trade studies to optimize system and subsystem designs for performance, safety, and cost, particularly negotiating between hardware and software to find the best design solution

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams through complex root-cause analysis and resolution in which there are many possible root causes that involve various areas of engineering, using a structured approach for problem solving

  • Work closely with Systems Verification & Validation Engineers to define verification & validation plans that ensure the delivery of a safe and responsible autonomous product

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Software or equivalent engineering field

  • 12+ years of experience in the design and analysis of complex electromechanical and/or robotic systems

  • Experience in systems engineering and requirements management including systems analysis, requirements decomposition, and verification & validation

  • Experience in data analysis of test results including probability and statistical analysis techniques

  • Hands-on approach to the test and debugging of electromechanical systems

  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for audiences ranging from technicians to senior executives

What Makes You Standout

  • M.S., or Ph.D in Mechanical, Electrical, Software or equivalent engineering field

  • Experience in one or more of the following industries: automotive, medical, aerospace, robotics

  • Experience in autonomous systems and/or mobile robotics

  • Experience working in Unix/Linux environments

Compensation Range: $195K - $240K
