Job description

HealthPartners is hiring a Senior Director, IT Web and Mobile Systems. This leadership role is responsible for the strategy, delivery, security, and operational excellence of HealthPartners' web, mobile, and integration platforms that power digital experiences across both Health Plan and Care Delivery.

The Senior Director will lead software engineering, web and mobile application development, enterprise integration and API platforms, secure software delivery practices, release management, and 24x7 production support. This leader oversees the technology teams and capabilities that support HealthPartners.com, mobile applications, authenticated digital experiences, internal web applications, middleware services, and critical integrations with enterprise platforms including Epic, claims systems, member portals, and data services.

Partnering closely with leaders across Digital, User Experience, Care Systems, Care Operations, Health Plan Administration, Administrative Operations, and IT, the Senior Director will drive a modern, scalable, resilient, and secure digital ecosystem that enhances member and patient experiences, streamlines business and clinical workflows, and advances strategic organizational goals.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Enterprise Data, AI, and Digital (Chief Digital Officer), this position joins a leadership team of 11 peers and directly oversees six leaders supporting a department of approximately 100 technology professionals. The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative technology leader with a passion for building high-performing teams, delivering exceptional digital experiences, and enabling innovation across a complex healthcare enterprise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Ten (10) years of IT leadership and/or management experience.
  • Eight (8) years of leadership experience in health-plan and/or health services technology environments.
  • Five (5) years leading large, complex initiatives and/or portfolios with significant cross-functional dependencies.
  • Hands-on experience implementing one or more of: NLP/generative AI use cases, predictive models, agentic/call-assist tools, RPA/IDP workflows.
  • Working knowledge of cloud/data platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks, AWS or GCP) and common ML/automation toolsets (e.g., TensorFlow/PyTorch/Hugging Face; Power Automate/UiPath).
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and security practices in regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in an integrated health system or other highly regulated organization.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Databricks.
  • Familiarity with Epic data, payer datasets, and research data platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to quantify benefits (e.g., time saved, error reduction, service levels).

Hours/Location:

  • M-F; core business hours
  • The position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of onsite presence Monday through Thursday at the Bloomington corporate office.

Compensation Range:

  • $88.26 - $132.40 hourly
    • Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Pay within our ranges may also be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities as well as internal equity. Hired candidates may be eligible to receive additional compensation based on role (e.g., shift differential, bonus, sales incentive, productivity pay, etc.).

Responsibilities:

Solution Delivery & Operations

  • Coordinate design, configuration, testing, and rollout of AI and automation use cases (e.g., agent assist, summarization, risk flagging, RPA/IDP).
  • Partner with platform teams to integrate solutions with core systems (e.g., Epic, claims, member portals, data lake).
  • Establish runbooks/monitoring; track stability, performance, and user feedback; drive continuous improvement.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Apply responsible AI and data governance standards (model documentation, access controls, PHI handling, audit readiness).
  • Ensure change control, model/automation versioning, and basic performance/bias checks are documented and repeatable.
  • Coordinate with Privacy, Security, and Compliance on reviews and approvals.

Stakeholder Management & Training

  • Coordinate with operational areas to assess ongoing areas for enablement support.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements; maintain prioritized backlogs and implementation plans.
  • Provide end-user training and quick-reference materials; collect outcomes and satisfaction metrics

Vendor/Partner & Portfolio Support

  • Manage day-to-day work with vendors and internal partners; validate deliverables against acceptance criteria.
  • Contribute to light-weight ROI tracking (time saved, turnaround, quality/error rate), and surface lessons learned for reuse.
