What are some common challenges Road Service professionals face when assisting motorists in the field?

Road Service professionals often encounter unpredictable situations, such as inclement weather, heavy traffic, and working at night or in remote locations. They must quickly assess and resolve vehicle issues like flat tires, dead batteries, or lockouts while ensuring their own safety and that of the customers. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as technicians frequently interact with distressed motorists and may need to coordinate with tow truck operators or emergency responders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Road Service Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Road Service Technician, you need a solid understanding of vehicle mechanics and diagnostics, often backed by a high school diploma and relevant automotive certifications. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, roadside assistance software, and mobile communication devices is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to stay calm under pressure set top performers apart. These skills ensure quick, reliable service to motorists, fostering safety and satisfaction in time-sensitive roadside situations.

What kind of work can I do on the road?

A road service technician performs tasks such as repairing or replacing tires, jump-starting vehicles, changing batteries, and assisting with mechanical issues at roadside locations. They often work outdoors, use tools and diagnostic equipment, and may need to follow safety protocols and certifications for vehicle repair. The work requires quick problem-solving and the ability to operate in various weather conditions.

What job makes $1,000,000 a year?

In the context of road service, high earnings can be achieved by experienced fleet managers or business owners operating large-scale roadside assistance companies, especially those with extensive coverage areas and specialized services. Such roles often require strong management skills, industry knowledge, and sometimes ownership of the business. Most roadside service technicians or drivers typically earn significantly less than this amount annually.

What is the difference between Road Service vs Towing Technician?

AspectRoad ServiceTowing Technician
CredentialsDriver's license, basic automotive knowledgeDriver's license, automotive repair certification often preferred
Work EnvironmentOn-road, roadside locations, emergency situationsGarage or roadside, vehicle recovery and repair
Employer & IndustryAuto clubs, roadside assistance companies, insurance providersTow companies, auto repair shops, roadside assistance services

Road Service technicians primarily assist stranded drivers by providing on-the-spot help such as jump-starts, tire changes, or fuel delivery. Towing Technicians focus on transporting vehicles from one location to another, often involving vehicle recovery and repair. While both roles require roadside presence and similar credentials, their core responsibilities differ, with Road Service emphasizing immediate roadside aid and Towing Technicians specializing in vehicle transportation.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Road service jobs, such as roadside assistance technicians or tow truck drivers, can pay around $4,000 weekly with experience, good driving records, and sometimes certifications. These roles often require physical skills, knowledge of vehicle repair, and working in varying outdoor conditions, but typically do not require a college degree.

Can you make money doing roadside assistance?

Roadside assistance technicians can earn income through service calls, often paid per job or hourly, with earnings varying based on experience, location, and the company. Successful technicians may also receive tips and bonuses, and the job typically requires good driving skills and a valid license. Income potential depends on workload and hours worked, with some technicians working full-time and others part-time.

What is a Road Service technician?

A Road Service technician is a professional who provides assistance to motorists experiencing vehicle problems while on the road. Their duties typically include helping with flat tires, jump-starting batteries, unlocking vehicles, delivering fuel, and sometimes performing minor mechanical repairs on-site. Road Service technicians work for roadside assistance companies, automotive clubs, or towing services, and are trained to respond quickly and effectively to get drivers back on the road safely. They often work in varying weather conditions and may be on call during nights and weekends.

Job description

Road Service Manager โ€” Diesel / Working Leader โ€” NETC Fleet Services (MA-based)

This is a leadership seat that still pays like a top producer. Base pay is $35โ€“$45/hr on a standard 50-hour week, and commissions added on top of that. A road service manager who works hard and leads well clears $130,000โ€“$150,000+ a year. You lead the crew, you still turn wrenches, and your paycheck reflects both.

NETC Fleet Services is hiring a Road Service Manager to lead our diesel road service team in MA (Chicopee or Sturbridge-based) โ€” the techs who get stranded trucks, trailers, motor coaches, and heavy equipment back on the road across New England. We're one of the region's fastest-growing names in towing, recovery, and commercial truck service, and road service is one of our highest-growth verticals. This is a chance to lead it, build it, and grow with it.

This is a player-coach role. You'll lead a team of road service technicians and run calls yourself. If you want a desk and a clipboard, this isn't it. If you're a top diesel tech who's ready to set the standard, develop a crew, and earn like a leader, keep reading.

What you'll lead:

  • Be the first point of contact for your road service techs โ€” daily operations, questions, and issues
  • Lead by example. Your own diagnostics, repairs, documentation, and professionalism set the bar for the team
  • Mentor and train your techs โ€” bring new hires up to speed and push your veterans to get better
  • Provision and manage equipment โ€” make sure your team has the trucks, tools, and parts they need to produce
  • Ensure your techs complete DVIRs, follow procedures, and meet company and DOT standards
  • Give your people direct feedback, and escalate persistent performance issues to management
  • Communicate proactively with dispatch, parts, and leadership โ€” flag staffing, scheduling, and equipment problems early, with a recommended fix

What you'll still do (because you lead from the truck):

  • Perform emergency roadside repairs, service, and diagnostics on diesel vehicles and equipment
  • Brake work, electrical, tire R&I, engine and powertrain repairs, AC and emission systems
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Process customer payments and resolve issues swiftly, calmly, and professionally
  • Keep documentation, receipts, and invoices tight and submitted on time
  • Keep your truck clean, presentable, and road-ready

What we're looking for:

  • Proven diesel/heavy-duty repair skill โ€” you can run any call you'd assign to your team
  • Leadership experience or clear leadership readiness โ€” you've trained, mentored, or run a crew
  • High school diploma or GED, plus diesel engine repair training/certification
  • Advanced knowledge of gas and diesel engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics; proficiency with diesel diagnostic software
  • A valid driver's license and current DOT Medical Card
  • Sharp problem-solving, strong communication, and the work ethic to lead from the front

What we offer:

  • Base pay $35โ€“$45/hr on a standard 50-hour week
  • Commission after hours and on weekends โ€” realistic total earnings of $130,000โ€“$150,000/yr
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Life and disability coverage
  • AFLAC plans
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • A growing company where leaders move up

If you've got the diesel skills, the leadership in you, and you want to earn what a top producer earns, we want to talk to you. Apply today and lead the best road service team in New England.

Job Type: Full-time ยท Work Location: In person
