Compensation: $36.00 per hour
Qualifications and Experience
-
Current Registered Nursing (RN) license to practice in New York State
-
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
-
Experience in pediatrics and/or public health preferred
-
School nursing or acute care experience preferred
-
Knowledge of diabetes management, including insulin pumps and pens
-
Experience with seizure management
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
Ability to perform skilled nursing procedures, including:
-
Catheterization
-
Gastrostomy care
-
Tube feedings
-
Insulin administration
-
Nebulizer treatments
Primary Responsibilities
Substitute School Nurses provide health services to students and staff and may be required to respond to immediate health-related concerns. Responsibilities include consulting with students, staff, and families, and ensuring proper documentation and communication with the School Nurse, Building Principal, and/or Nurse Coordinator.
General Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Administering medications and treatments

Providing care for illnesses and injuries
-
Implementing Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans
-
Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of all health encounters
Specific Duties
-
Collaborate with Building Administration and the Nurse Coordinator to support communication among students, staff, families, and community providers, as appropriate
-
Protect and promote student health in accordance with NYS Nursing Standards and licensure requirements
-
Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff
-
Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and NYS guidelines for medication administration in schools
-
Maintain accurate records in compliance with the NYS Nurse Practice Act and report appropriately to district administrators

Complete student and staff accident/insurance reports as required
