Position overview:
Leads and evolves the Corporate Communications function for Rivermark Credit Union, responsible for defining and executing a communication strategy that connects business priorities to employees, drives organizational alignment and increases employee engagement. Serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership while also acting as a trusted partner to departments across the organization, ensuring communication is clear, consistent, and aligned at every level. Corporate Communications plays a central role in helping teams effectively share information, support change, and connect employees to the broader direction of the organization. As stewards of Rivermark's voice, this role defines and guides how communication is developed, delivered, and experienced, ensuring employees are informed, engaged, and connected while reinforcing a cohesive and consistent employee experience.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Defines and leads the Corporate Communications strategy, ensuring alignment between business priorities, leadership messaging, employee understanding across the organization. Translates business strategy into clear, actionable communication for employees.
  • Partners across the organization to support enterprise initiatives and ensure communication is aligned, effective, and integrated into planning and execution. Identifies gaps in alignment and develops communication strategies to address them.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, shaping communication strategy and ensuring clarity, consistency, and connection across leadership messaging. Advises executive leadership on communication strategy, messaging, timing, and employee impact. Shapes and oversees leadership messaging across key channels and forums.Participates in strategic planning discussions to ensure communication is embedded early.
  • Develops leader communication tools, messaging frameworks, and engagement resources. Strengthens visibility, trust, and connection between leadership and employees Serves as a trusted partner and primary point of contact for sensitive and confidential communications, advising on executive messaging for high-impact organizational changes.
  • Leads communication planning for enterprise initiatives, ensuring employees understand, engage with, and adopt organizational change. Defines messaging frameworks that communicate what, why, and impact. Partners with cross-functional teams to embed communication into initiative planning. Drives clarity, alignment, and adoption during periods of transformation.
  • Owns, develops, and maintains Rivermark's communication ecosystem and establishes standards to ensure effective, consistent, and scalable communication practices. Owns and evolves communication channels and platforms (intranet, newsletters, corporate email, etc.). Establishes and enforces enterprise-wide communication standards and governance. Determines communication approach and prioritization for key initiatives.
  • Ensures effective channel usage to reduce redundancy and improve clarity. Oversees intake, prioritization, and workflow processes.
  • Leads communication efforts, in close partnership with People & Culture leaders, that strengthen engagement, reinforce culture, and create a connected employee experience. Drives employee engagement through storytelling, recognition, and meaningful content. Ensures communication reinforces a positive, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture. Elevates employee and leadership voices across communication platforms. Supports initiatives that strengthen connection, belonging, and alignment.
  • Establishes accountability for communication effectiveness through data, insights, and ongoing refinement. Defines and monitors success metrics for communication effectiveness. Analyzes engagement, reach, and operational performance across channels. Uses insights to refine strategy, improve communication quality, and drive better outcomes. Establishes benchmarks and performance expectations for communication success.
  • Ensures communication supports organizational effectiveness by identifying risks, strengthening clarity, and improving employee understanding. Identifies and mitigates communication risks that may impact alignment or engagement. Advises leadership on employee sentiment and communication implications of decisions. Supports proactive communication planning to minimize disruption and confusion.
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with key vendors to ensure alignment with the organization's goals, objectives, and values, negotiates favorable terms and contracts/agreements, and oversees vendor performance to optimize value and mitigate risks.
  • Assists with establishing, monitoring, and reporting department budgets, business plans, and KPIs to ensure they align with the organization's strategic objectives. Closely monitors expenses and makes recommendations for improvement.

Must-haves:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications or public relations preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum three years progressive management/leadership experience.
  • Minimum six years' experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or equivalent.
  • Excellent team building, goal setting and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively develop and motivate employees.
  • Leads by example and exhibits leadership abilities that create a high-performing, creative, and collaborative work environment that supports business objectives while reflecting and advancing the credit union's culture, vision, and values.
  • Ability to translate complex business information into clear, compelling, and employee-focused messaging.
  • Experience managing communication channels such as intranet, newsletters, video messaging, and employee campaigns.
  • Ability to lead communications for organizational change initiatives and enterprise priorities.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply solid judgment, initiative, and tact in communications with members and staff.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Experience partnering closely with executive leadership, People & Culture, and business leaders.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally in group and individual settings and develop positive internal working relationships. Ability to establish credibility and rapport, partner collaboratively, and work successfully with members and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Helps create an environment where people feel welcome, a sense of belonging, listened to and engaged.
  • Maintains high standards in areas of security, accuracy, thoroughness, completeness and neatness of documentation, system input, correspondence, system upgrades and system testing. Able to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
  • Strong organization, planning and prioritization skills. Successful at balancing responsibilities to ensure completion by deadlines.
  • Proficient in using personal computers, particularly Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel. Must be technologically savvy, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and software applications.
  • Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position works on-site at Oregon City on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Must have flexibility to deal with unexpected events and occasionally attend meetings and events that may occur outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
