Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Right of Way (ROW) Agent to join our growing team in our office in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The ROW Agent will be responsible for supporting land acquisition, easement negotiation, and property rights coordination for transportation, utility, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in real estate, land acquisition, or public infrastructure projects and a solid understanding of applicable state and federal regulations.
What You'll Do:
  • Research and review property ownership records, land titles, and plats
  • Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, legal teams, and government agencies to ensure information necessary to facilitate right of way efforts, if obtained in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare and present compensation offers, agreements, and or right-of-entry documentation to secure land rights, easements, or property purchases for public infrastructure projects.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project records, correspondence, and acquisition files.
  • Conduct property inspections and facilitate in-person meetings with stakeholders, as needed
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, including VDOT and FHWA ROW procedures
  • Assist with relocation services as necessary following the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act
  • Provide timely updates to project managers and stakeholders

What You'll Need:
Required:
  • Attention to detail and a desire to learn the complexities of an ever-evolving field of service
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to travel regionally between project sites and offices

Preferred:
  • Experience with VDOT right of way procedures
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in right of way acquisition, real estate, land development, or a related field
  • Familiarity with eminent domain and land acquisition regulations
  • IRWA (International Right of Way Association) coursework or certification
  • Experience with GIS tools and parcel mapping systems
