Job description

As Senior Quantum Engineer, Readout, you will optimize superconducting qubit readout and reset on Rigetti's quantum processors and fault-tolerant prototypes. You will lead a range of experimental efforts to characterize and improve measurement protocols, signal chains, amplifiers, and device layouts. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of engineers in theory, hardware, and chip design, you will advance the speed and fidelity of readout and reset in Rigetti Computing's quantum computing systems to fulfill its ambitious roadmap toward fault tolerance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead superconducting qubit measurements to characterize dispersive readout of our quantum circuits
  • Develop novel measurement techniques and pulse optimizations for readout speed or fidelity, and implement them in Rigetti's Python-based calibration and characterization software
  • Collaborate with theory and simulation teams to build or validate models that describe readout performance
  • Specify improvements to the quantum chip layout, signal lines, and electronics, work with the hardware and device design teams to build them
  • Develop protocols to accelerate circuit execution and enable error-correcting codes, including reset, mid-circuit measurement, and ancilla readout

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field, plus 2+ years of industry and/or postdoctoral experience
  • Deep expertise in circuit quantum electrodynamics and dispersive readout in particular
  • Demonstrated ability to perform measurements on quantum systems and explain the results through theory and/or simulation
  • Exposure to superconducting qubits, either in academic or industrial settings
  • Experience with software development in an industry setting, in languages such as Python, C, C++, Rust, etc.
  • Experience with low-level pulse optimization of quantum gates or readout
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication skills
