Position Overview

AMPERA is seeking a talented Simulation & Modeling Engineer to develop and execute advanced computational models that simulate the behavior, performance, and safety of AMPERAs hybrid nuclear micro-reactor systems. This position plays a central role in integrating physics-based simulations across neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, materials behavior, and structural mechanics to optimize system design and performance.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in multiphysics modeling, numerical methods, and high-performance computing (HPC), along with a deep understanding of reactor physics and engineering systems.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop coupled reactor physics, thermal-hydraulics, and structural simulations using tools such as COMSOL, Abaqus, or OpenFOAM.
  • Perform sensitivity, uncertainty, and parametric analyses to guide design decisions.
  • Integrate simulation results into system-level digital twins for design and operational prediction.
  • Collaborate with nuclear, mechanical, and materials engineers to validate models with experimental and prototype data.
  • Support design verification and safety case development through simulation-based evidence.
  • Develop custom modeling scripts and workflows in Python or MATLAB to automate analysis and visualization.
  • Contribute to the verification and validation (V&V) framework for multiphysics modeling tools.
  • Prepare technical documentation, results summaries, and presentations for internal and regulatory review.

Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
  • 510 years of experience in advanced simulation, modeling, or computational analysis.
  • Expertise in multiphysics coupling, CFD, and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Proficiency in modeling software such as COMSOL, Abaqus, or OpenFOAM.
  • Experience with HPC environments, scripting languages (Python, MATLAB), and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with reactor design principles, radiation transport, and safety analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligibility for security clearance may be required.
