What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Reactor Physicist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Reactor Physicist, you need a strong background in nuclear engineering or physics, typically with an advanced degree and expertise in reactor physics principles. Proficiency with simulation software such as MCNP, SCALE, or CASMO, and familiarity with remote monitoring systems are essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication are valuable soft skills for interpreting data and collaborating with remote teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring reactor safety, optimizing performance, and effectively addressing issues from a distance.

How does a remote reactor physics engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to ensure safety and accuracy in reactor operations?

Remote reactor physics engineers often work closely with on-site operations and engineering teams via secure digital platforms, video conferencing, and real-time data sharing tools. They are responsible for providing analytical support, conducting simulations, and reviewing operational data to advise on reactor performance and safety. Effective communication and clear documentation are critical, as remote engineers must ensure their recommendations are understood and implemented correctly by on-site personnel. Regular virtual meetings and occasional on-site visits may be required to maintain strong collaboration and address complex challenges.

What is a Remote Reactor Physicist?

A Remote Reactor Physicist is a professional who applies the principles of nuclear physics to analyze, monitor, and optimize the performance of nuclear reactors, typically working remotely using specialized software and instrumentation. Their responsibilities often include conducting simulations, monitoring reactor core behavior, and ensuring safety protocols are followed from an offsite location. This remote approach allows them to support nuclear facilities without being physically present, leveraging digital tools and real-time data. They are vital for operational support, regulatory compliance, and troubleshooting within the nuclear energy sector.

Job description

Senior Nuclear Core Design Engineer
Contract renews in 6-month increments but the project itself should go a couple years

  • FULLY REMOTE but they'd like the consultants to travel into their Camden, NJ location maybe once a quarter to have some facetime with the team.
No sponsorship Must have:
  • 7+ years of experience in the nuclear industry
  • hands-on experience with CASMO/SIMULATE
  • background in reactor physics and core analysis
  • flexibility to dynamic and assumption-driven nature of early-stage design work
  • adaptable, collaborative, and open to interim solutions
  • HANDS ON position, not people management - the key requirement is proficiency in CASMO/SIMULATE codes with 10+ years of industry experience.
  • Needs a senior-level resource, they really need this project to be successful so no time for training or handholding, come in and hit the ground running
