What is an RFID engineer?

RFID Engineers are professionals who design, develop, implement, and maintain systems that use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. They work with hardware and software to enable the tracking, identification, and management of assets using RFID tags and readers. Their responsibilities may include integrating RFID systems into existing processes, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring the security and efficiency of RFID data transmission. RFID Engineers are employed in industries like logistics, retail, healthcare, and manufacturing to improve inventory control, asset tracking, and supply chain visibility.

What are some common challenges faced by RFID engineers when implementing new RFID systems in existing infrastructures?

RFID Engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating new RFID hardware with legacy IT systems, managing signal interference from environmental factors, and ensuring data accuracy across diverse platforms. Collaboration with IT teams and facility managers is crucial to address compatibility and optimize system performance. Overcoming these challenges typically involves careful site surveys, thorough testing, and ongoing communication with stakeholders to ensure seamless system deployment and operation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RFID engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RFID Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, wireless communication, and RFID technology, often supported by a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with RFID hardware, middleware, software integration, and tools like Auto-ID systems, as well as relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA RFID+), is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help set exceptional engineers apart. These competencies are crucial for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting reliable RFID solutions that meet organizational needs.

What does an RFID engineer do?

If you're passionate about building innovative solutions, working with modern technology, and helping businesses thrive through digital transformation while reducing environmental impact, RFgen is the place for you. Let's create the future of enterprise mobility-together!
Job Description & Responsibilities:
Warehouses run on SAP. Ours run better with RFgen on top of it. We connect SAP to the warehouse floor - barcode scanning, mobile workflows, real-time data - and we do it without ripping out what already works.
We are looking for a Solution Architect who knows SAP deeply - WM, EWM, the integration layer, how things break in production - and who can translate that knowledge into solutions customers trust and sales teams can sell. This role is on the Professional Services team and sits between presales and delivery alongside a group of Solution Architects. You own the full arc: discovery, design, and making sure what gets built is what was promised. We are a small, focused team. We are investing in AI tools to cut repetitive work and expanding into RFID and RTLS. If you want to help shape that, this is the right place.
The Role:
Presales
  • Work with Sales from first call to signed deal - qualify fit, run demos, own the estimate.
  • Assist the Sales team in delivering tailored, high-impact product demonstrations showcasing RFgen's mobile solutions.
  • Spot expansion opportunities in existing accounts and bring them forward.

Solution Design
  • Lead design sessions. Translate SAP requirements into mobile workflows using RFgen's Mobile Edge Suite and with the assistance of AI, create design documents the implementation team can build from.
  • Define the integration approach - RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs, APIs - and validate it before build begins.
  • Design for the long term, not just the go-live date.
  • Flag risks early. Push back when something is wrong. The timeline does not override the solution.
  • Contribute to team initiatives - better estimating, better templates, stronger onboarding.
  • Make sure what was designed is what gets built.

Delivery
  • Be the technical anchor for the implementation team. Unblock them. Keep the solution true to the design.
  • Work with PMs on risk and scope. If quality is at stake, say so early.
  • Run workshops and training sessions. You are the expert in the room.

Beyond the Project
  • Engage in RFPs. Know how to position RFgen and articulate our value against alternatives.
  • Be someone customers call when they have a problem, not just a project.
  • Stay curious about RFID, RTLS, IoT. We are expanding into these areas and want people excited by that.

Compensation & Benefits: RFgen offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to address the diverse needs of our employees, such as:
  • Competitive Salaries
  • Annual Discretionary Bonus
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
  • 401(k) and Profit-Sharing
  • Paid Holidays
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) Plans
  • Friday Lunches and Holiday Parties

If you're ready to design enterprise-grade mobility solutions that transform warehouse and manufacturing operations-while playing a strategic role in shaping customer success-we invite you to join RFgen.
Requirements
Requirements Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with SAP in supply chain, warehouse management, or manufacturing - you have been in the room when things go wrong and know how to fix them.
  • Strong functional knowledge of SAP modules relevant to warehouse operations:

- SAP WM / EWM (required)
- SAP IM / MM / SD
- Understanding of SAP RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs, or APIs for real-time data integration
  • Solid understanding of integration architecture and software development principles.
  • Hands-on SAP integration experience - APIs, web services, or database-level.
  • Background in warehouse operations, manufacturing, or inventory management.
  • Comfortable with business process re-engineering and full project lifecycles.
  • Strong and clear communicator - with customers, with sales, with engineers.
  • Able to manage multiple engagements without losing track of what matters.
  • Confident facilitating workshops, influencing decisions, and navigating difficult conversations.
  • Can write a TSD that an engineer can build from on day one.
  • Willing to travel occasionally for demos, design sessions, and go-lives (less than 20%).

Preferred Skills:
  • SAP certification in Inventory, Warehouse Management, or Supply Chain modules (WM, EWM, MM, SD).
  • Exposure to warehouse mobile applications and data collection platforms.
  • Experience designing RFID, RTLS, or IoT-enabled tracking solutions.
  • Experience with custom application development and integration projects.
  • Experience with other ERP systems such as Oracle Cloud, Oracle E-Business Suite, JD Edwards, or Deltek is a plus.
  • Experience participating in RFP responses and presales solution.
  • Familiarity with warehouse operations best practices and process improvement initiatives in SAP environments.
  • Experience using and developing AI agents.
