Job description

Apex Heli-Support is seeking a motivated Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineer to join our engineering team. This position is ideal for an engineer with 4–6 years of experience who enjoys hands-on problem solving and wants exposure to aerospace design, manufacturing, inspection, reverse engineering, and aircraft modification/repair projects.

Must be capable of working closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production to develop practical engineering solutions and support projects from initial concept through design, manufacturing, inspection, and final implementation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D CAD models, SolidWorks, engineering drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support the design and development of aircraft components, tooling, fixtures, and shop aids.
  • Perform reverse engineering of existing components using dimensional inspection and 3D scanning data.
  • Develop manufacturing plans, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
  • Work directly with machinists, technicians, inspectors, and vendors to resolve manufacturing and fit-up issues.
  • Review drawings for dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, materials, finishes, and manufacturability.
  • Perform dimensional inspection and analyze measurement data using precision inspection equipment.
  • Assist with material and hardware selection based on design and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support engineering evaluations and basic structural/mechanical calculations as required.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to reduce cost, lead time, and rework.
  • Support prototype fabrication, first-article inspection, testing, and production implementation.
  • Prepare clear engineering reports, technical documentation, and design records.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Production, suppliers, and customers.


Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 4–6 years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, or a related hands-on engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals.
  • Ability to read and create engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of dimensional tolerances and GD&T.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials, fasteners, manufacturing processes, and finishes.
  • Familiarity with machine, sheet-metal fabrication, assemblies, and mechanical hardware.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hands-on engineering/manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with sheet-metal fabrication, tooling, fixtures, CNC machining or production support.
  • Experience with 3D scanning, CMM, dimensional inspection, or reverse engineering.
  • Familiarity with FAA-regulated aviation or aerospace manufacturing/repair environments.
  • Experience with engineering change control and configuration-controlled drawings.
  • Familiarity with structural calculations or FEA is a plus.


What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is not limited to working behind a computer. The right candidate should be comfortable designing a component in CAD, walking onto the shop floor to understand a manufacturing problem, working with technicians and inspectors, reviewing the finished hardware, and improving the design based on what is learned.

This position provides an opportunity to gain broad, hands-on aerospace engineering and FAA PMA experience. Rather than working on one small portion of a large program, our engineers are exposed to the complete engineering cycle, concept development, reverse engineering, design, analysis, manufacturing, inspection, testing, aircraft installation, and certification support.
