Job description


InterLink Engineering, LLC supports a wide variety of industries with a primary focus on product development, reverse engineering, and design for manufacturing support. Our capabilities allow for us to support our customers by either performing engineering tasks at our facility or at our customer sites as required. 
 
We are looking for one or two SolidWorks Mechanical Design Engineers with experience in product development or manufacturing experience, especially involving sheet metal, as well as 3D modeling and 2D drawing using SolidWorks.
 We have a couple opportunities opening contractual positions at a nearby client’s location, with the possibility of direct hire through the client or continued work through InterLink, allowing for a variety of different industry and project experiences. 
 
Essential Responsibilities: 
  • Design new products from scratch and make improvements to existing products using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) under the guidance of Senior Engineers 
  • Quickly transform ideas and rough sketches of designs into 3D models, then into working engineering drawings in SolidWorks
  • Create detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies
  • Collaborate with a small- to mid-sized team and keep project confidential
  • Rapid prototype and adjust immediately to design changes
  • Aide in the procurement, construction, and testing of prototypes and new products
  • Analyze data, review drawings for completeness, conduct design reviews with product management and suppliers to gain final approval.
  • Supports Lean and Quality initiatives to reduce variability in designs. 
  • Proficient in MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Support Product launch in Production environment - training and quality inspections

Physical Requirements:
 
  • Able to sit for long periods of time                          (Frequently)  
  • Able to effectively operate CAD system                 (Constantly)
  • Able to communicate effectively in all media       (Constantly)
Required Characteristics:
  • Highly proficient in SolidWorks, with a solid understanding of project management and Bill of Materials
  • Knowledgeable in common metal fabrication and machining processes
  • Associates’ degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Capable of tolerance stacks and analysis
  • Strong organizational and communication skills 
  • Ability to network with associates in other departments to find needed information
  • Willingness to consider change and to adapt
  • Must be a local Greater Phoenix resident with reliable transportation for getting to and from work

Preferred Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of Lean practices
  • Hands-on ability to take designs and create physical prototypes (mechanical aptitude)
  • Certified SolidWorks Professional
  • GD&T training certification
  • Expert knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and ASME-Y14.5 drawing and tolerance standards
  • CFD Analysis experience
  • Surfacing or plastic design experience
  • Tool and fixture design experience
  • Ability to multi-task and function in a production environment
  • Motivated, self-starter with the ability to learn quickly
  • Experience with DoD, vehicle, or aerospace product development
