Position Summary

Bow Valley College is seeking a collaborative and analytical Finance Services Analyst to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial Planning and Analytics, you will play a key role in providing financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis that supports informed decision-making across the College.

In this role, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to prepare financial reports, monitor project and grant funding, analyze financial performance, and provide recommendations that help ensure projects remain financially sustainable and compliant with funding agreements.

Your expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting will contribute to the College's commitment to responsible financial stewardship and continuous improvement.

What You'll Be Doing:

As the Finance Services Analyst, you will provide financial expertise and analytical support to a diverse portfolio of projects, grants, and operational areas. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal stakeholders, funding agencies, donors, and government organizations, ensuring compliance with contractual and funding requirements.

  • Develop and maintain project budgets while monitoring expenditures, forecasting financial performance, and ensuring project information is accurately configured within financial systems.

  • Conduct variance, trend, scenario, and sensitivity analyses to identify financial risks, evaluate potential impacts, and recommend strategies to support sound financial decision-making.

  • Partner with project holders and Finance Partners to provide guidance on eligible expenditures, funding requirements, budget management, and corrective actions when needed.

  • Monitor contract and grant funding, assess the financial impact of project changes, and ensure forecasts remain current and aligned with project objectives.

  • Prepare monthly operational variance reports, project cash flow forecasts, journal entries, grant and contract revenue recognition, and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Support annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, ad hoc financial analysis, and proposal development across the College.

  • Collaborate with external auditors during annual financial audits and ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and well documented.

  • Educate College employees on financial policies, business processes, and funding requirements while promoting strong financial stewardship across Schools and Departments.

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes by developing automated reporting solutions, enhancing forecasting tools, and supporting the implementation of new accounting systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Contribute to special projects and other financial initiatives that support the evolving needs of the Finance team.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Bachelor's Degree - Accounting, Business or a related discipline

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a financial analysis and/or financial reporting position

  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capability of building and maintaining productive and supportive working relationships

  • Proficient user of computer software applications, including large integrated enterprise resource planning systems, data warehousing and business intelligence tools, and advanced spreadsheet skills

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Preferred:

  • Professional accounting designation - (CPA, CPA-CA, CPA-CGA, CPA-CMA)

  • Experience in post-secondary institutions is an asset

  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.

  • Experience in financial statement preparation, including notes to financial statements.

  • Experience in project accounting in relation to contracts, some cost accounting experience, experience with integrated ERP systems and management reporting, experience dealing with clients and auditors, document management experience.

  • Experience in budget preparation

  • Experience in spreadsheet financial modeling

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
