Job description

Position Summary
The Director, Hospital Revenue Management, is responsible for the leadership organization, and planning of all activities related to the following functions for the entire health system: hospital billing, insurance collections, cash posting, denial management, variance resolution and the retention of revenue related to insurance overpayments. This position provides oversight of quality reviews, education and training, productivity management, business process improvement, and budgeting standards to achieve and maintain the corporate financial goals for the organization.
Responsibilities
  • Oversight of revenue management functions within the purview of over ten hospital facilities, free standing emergency departments, and other outpatient services
  • Oversight of revenue management functions for new acquisitions and transitional service agreements implemented.
  • Develops and monitors department operations for assigned departments and collaborates with other departments to improve the decrease delays billing for hospital accounts.
  • Maintains and monitors the aging of the accounts receivable and takes corrective action when necessary, including ensuring contractual adjustments are applied appropriately and monitors variances to resolution.
  • Works closely with the Revenue Management Analytics department to monitor and track performance using standard KPIs to reach target goals.
  • Develops and manages comprehensive project plans for implementations of new vendors.
  • Establishes and implements policies and procedures for the department as necessary.
  • Periodically reviews team member job descriptions and updates as necessary. Keeps team members informed of changes/developments in the department as discussed in the monthly team meetings and implements changes when necessary.
  • Manages and supports the implementation of process improvements.
  • Provides direct support and assistance to managers, assistant managers, leads, and team members assigned to fully accomplish their assigned duties and responsibilities and coaches where appropriate.
  • Provides leadership and strategic direction for the day-to-day patient accounting acute department.
  • Measures actual budgetary performance (revenue, expenses, staffing) against standards and ensures variances are within established targets.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of hospital billing, accounts receivable management, and cash posting and how it relates to/impacts other Revenue management workflows/departments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in data preparation, analysis, and presentation to maintain effective, efficient, and compliant work environments.
  • Facilitates and presents in revenue management meetings.
  • Oversees tracking and reporting of productivity for Patient Accounting team members.
  • Communicates state and federal legislative changes to the appropriate team members throughout revenue management.
  • Works closely with all Revenue management areas and other departments to ensure operational processes are timely.
  • Ensures the department operates within the established budget guidelines and justifies any variances in expenses to the Senior Director and AVP of Revenue Management.
  • Completes special projects for Revenue management departments as necessary.
  • Manages personnel functions, including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary action.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions
  • Ensures revenue management functions are completed with a high degree of quality and accuracy, and all interactions with team members are handled in a positive manner.
  • Ensures revenue management quality continues to meet or surpass organization/industry standards.
  • Displays competencies in developing efficient and effective solutions to complex business challenges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through education, programs, lectures. Research and other hospital management tools.

Qualifications
Education/Training.
  • High School diploma required. Bachelor's degree. Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance preferred.
  • Associate's degree and three (3) years of directly related work experience may substitute for Bachelor's degree (In addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section).
  • Ten (10) years of healthcare revenue cycle experience may substitute for Bachelor's degree (in addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section)

Licensure/Certification
  • HFMA or AAHAM certification preferred.

Experience
  • Five (5) years of Hospital Revenue Management experience to include three (3) years of leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to revenue cycle operations.
