What are Return Coordinators?

Return Coordinators are professionals responsible for managing the process of returning goods or products from customers back to a company or warehouse. They oversee the return shipments, process return requests, inspect returned items, and ensure that the proper documentation is completed. Their role is vital in maintaining customer satisfaction and efficient inventory management, as well as ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures regarding returns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Return Coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Return Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in logistics or supply chain management, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant associate degree. Familiarity with inventory management systems, shipping software, and Microsoft Office Suite is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation help you manage return requests and resolve issues efficiently. These skills ensure accurate processing, minimize losses, and maintain customer satisfaction in the returns process.

What is the difference between Return Coordinator vs Return Specialist?

Return CoordinatorReturn Specialist
Typically manages return processes, coordinates with logistics and customer service, and oversees return policies.Handles individual return cases, processes return requests, and provides customer support related to returns.

Both roles often require knowledge of return procedures, customer service skills, and familiarity with company policies. Return Coordinators usually have broader responsibilities, including overseeing return workflows, while Return Specialists focus on processing specific returns. Employers in retail, e-commerce, and logistics frequently use both titles, with overlapping skills and certifications.

What are some common challenges a Return Coordinator faces, and how can they effectively handle them?

As a Return Coordinator, one common challenge is managing high volumes of returns, especially during peak seasons. This requires excellent organizational skills to track returned items, process refunds, and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams. Additionally, ensuring compliance with company policies and minimizing errors in documentation are key aspects of the role. Building strong relationships with warehouse staff and customer service teams can help streamline the process and resolve issues quickly.

Job description

We're Hiring: Returns Coordinator
Location: Clayton, IN
Company: Pelican

Who We Are

At Pelican, we engineer products that stand up to the world’s toughest conditions—because the people who rely on us do too. For nearly 50 years, we’ve been a trusted partner for military personnel, first responders, outdoor adventurers, and innovators who push the limits.

With a global presence that includes 11 offices, 4 manufacturing facilities, and 4 custom case centers, we create high-performance protective solutions that ensure our customers can focus on what matters most. Whether it’s transporting critical medical supplies, securing mission-essential equipment, or keeping expedition gear safe, Pelican products are Built to Protect to Equip for the Mission.

At Pelican, your work has a real-world impact. You’ll be part of a team driven by innovation, craftsmanship, and the shared belief that when the mission is critical, failure isn’t an option. If you’re ready to build something that makes a difference, be part of a team that protects what matters most.

What You'll Do:

Pelican is looking for a detail-driven Returns Coordinator to own and optimize the returns process within our distribution operation. In this role, you’ll be at the center of product flow—managing returned inventory, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring products are processed accurately and efficiently. You’ll work closely with warehouse teams and cross-functional partners to improve workflows, maintain inventory integrity, and deliver a high level of service.

  • Own the end-to-end returns process—from receiving and inspection to disposition and inventory updates
  • Verify product condition and ensure compliance with quality and operational standards
  • Process and track returns within inventory and order management systems with speed and accuracy
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to returns, inventory, and order fulfillment
  • Repack, relabel, and return approved products to inventory while coordinating disposition of damaged materials
  • Monitor return workflows and prioritize activities to meet service expectations and deadlines
  • Partner with Warehouse, Quality, and Customer Service teams to resolve issues and improve customer experience
  • Perform audits and spot checks to ensure compliance with SOPs and inventory accuracy
  • Identify trends and opportunities for process improvement while escalating risks when needed
  • Train and support team members on returns procedures and quality standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • 1–3 years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, returns processing, or inventory control.
  • Experience coordinating workflows or processes within a distribution or operational environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with warehouse management or inventory systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and functions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple workflows, and operate in a fast-paced environment.

Join a company that truly values its employees! We offer a relaxed and casual work environment, a strong commitment to giving back to communities, and a focus on employee satisfaction. With regular opportunities to share feedback with leadership and structured performance evaluations, we ensure that your voice is heard and your growth is supported.
