Tax Accountant

A.T. Becker & Associates, Inc. Scarsdale, NY 10583 Full-Time | In-Person | Overtime Available

A.T. Becker & Associates is a small financial firm in Scarsdale, NY providing tax preparation, bookkeeping, and financial planning for individuals and small businesses. We offer a supportive, educational, and team-oriented environment where growth and professional development are encouraged.

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Tax Accountant to prepare individual and business tax returns, perform small-business bookkeeping, and support clients with tax planning and compliance. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

This is an in-person role with standard hours Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and overtime required, especially during tax season. From February-April, one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for:
  • Individuals (1040)
  • Small businesses (1120, 1120S, 1065)
  • Estates & trusts (1041)
  • Multi-state returns
  • Compute tax liabilities and identify deductions/credits to minimize client tax burden
  • Research complex tax questions and communicate clear recommendations
  • Review financial statements, income records, and supporting documentation
  • Explain completed tax returns and provide tax planning insights to clients
  • Respond to and resolve IRS and state notices or audits
  • Record and post financial transactions; reconcile accounts
  • Analyze bank statements and prepare Profit & Loss statements for small businesses
  • Process multiple payrolls: new hires, W-4 updates, deductions, and supplemental pay
  • Prepare quarterly payroll returns and calculate required payroll tax deposits (EFTPS & NYS Online Services)
  • Calculate sales tax liability and prepare sales tax returns
  • Interview clients to understand financial situations thoroughly
  • Maintain professional, positive communication with clients and team members
  • Provide timely responses to questions, issues, and tax authority correspondence
  • Assist financial advisor with educational financial planning analysis
  • Maintain organized workpapers and client files
  • Support a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Master's in Accounting or Taxation (preferred but not required)
  • EA or CPA certification-or working toward it-preferred
  • 2+ years of recent tax preparation experience (including payroll & sales tax)
  • Strong background in multi-state individual tax returns
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Drake Accounting or ProSeries is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Professional, reliable, and self-sufficient, with strong teamwork skills
  • Flexible schedule during peak season
  • Must be able to commute or relocate to Scarsdale, NY
  • Background check is required as condition of hiring
