Duties * You will participate in controlling and extinguishing fires by operating a hose, ladder, hydrant and/or rescuing endangered people. * You will respond as a member of a Hazardous Material Response Team to contain and control a hazardous material spill or discharge. * You will perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with layouts and locations of fire hazards and locations of fixed fire protection systems.

* You will maintain fire station and related equipment in good condition. * You will extricate trapped victims and administer all possible emergency care and protection prior to removal. * You will verify and monitor victim's vital signs i.e., pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, respiration, etc.

* This is a Bargaining Unit position. * You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. Qualifications GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Operating both basic and specialized firefighting tools, including ladders, power tools, and nozzles, while applying fire control strategies in hazardous conditions; knowledge of emergency medical procedures, such as patient assessment, CPR, and noninvasive treatments, and preparing individuals for transport to medical facilities; maintaining and inspecting firefighting equipment, performing search and rescue operations, and managing hazardous material releases. The following certification levels are the minimum qualification standard for the position. Individuals must be certified at these levels before being eligible to fill the grade and/or position.

* NREMT registry * Firefighter I and II * Hazmat Awareness * Hazmat Operations * Hazardous Materials Technician GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Operating firefighting tools and equipment, such as ladders, rescue tools, and nozzles, while applying fire control techniques in various environments; possess knowledge of emergency medical procedures, including patient assessment, treatment, and transport, along with performing CPR and noninvasive medical procedures; handling hazardous materials releases, using specialized protective clothing and equipment to control or stop leaks. The following certification levels are the minimum qualification standard for the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays) and rotating shift work.

You will be required to work hours and conditions that are in close contact with Supervisors and coworkers for long periods of time (24 to 72 hrs.) You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position is designated emergency essential personnel and the position is subject to recall. You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies.

This position requires rotating shift work. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current National Registry of Emergency Technicians (NREMT) registry certification. You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program.

You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements . You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties. You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Hazardous Material Awareness, Hazardous Material Operations, and Hazardous Materials Technician.

You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER I by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard. You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER II by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard. You will be required to possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

You must possess a current National Registry or State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMD. You will be required to obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) certification. You may be required to work in high elevations and/or below ground in confined workspaces.

You will be required to work hours and conditions under close contact with supervisors for long periods of time. You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions. You will be exposed to communicable diseases, unsanitary conditions and traumatic injuries.

You will be required to possess and maintain the physical stamina, agility, and mental stability to work under conditions where intense periods of physical exertion and mental stress, under adverse conditions, may be encountered. This position has a maximum entry age of 37. Candidates that will be older than 37 at the time of appointment will require an age waiver.

Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. Work schedule consists of 72 hours per week/144 hours per pay period (firefighter hours differ, not all are 72 hours per week).

Employee may be recalled to duty outside normal working hours. This position requires which requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for this position. I am willing and able to submit to a SCHR check.

You will attend training classes to meet GA Basic EMT and National Registry EMT requirements of IV's and Combi Tube. Employee must participate in the mandatory physical fitness program. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
