Job description

As a Supervisor you are responsible for supporting thrift store operations and services. Effectively execute job duties listed, manage unexpected events, and effectively communicate the store goals with direction and training. Uphold core values in coaching and training while embodying the mission of Saint Vincent de Paul. The enthusiasm and culture of SVdP must be lived and communicated throughout the store, staff, volunteers and community.

  1. Supervise daily operations while following management directives, SVdP policies and leading a team to maintain standards. Oversee and direct staff and volunteers with clear communication of expectations and goals. Ensure SVdP mission and values are maintained at all times showing dependability and commitment.
  2. Train on all policies and procedures consistently; reporting all incidents to the manager within 24 hours via written documentation/phone call and/or at the conclusion of situations for all emergencies.
  3. Train; oversee new and existing staff and volunteers in the areas of customer service, pricing, merchandising, donations, sorting and processing. Coach individuals in position within the store operations.
  4. Exhibit and train exceptional customer service skills with hospitality in all positions including cashier and donation drop off and throughout the store.
  5. Supervise employees and volunteers engaged in sales, cash handling, donations, vouchers, reconciling cash with sales receipts, preparing any and all required paperwork. 
  6. Follow employee schedules, reporting changes, absences and tardies to the manager.
  7. Display all merchandise in an inviting manner with weekly rotation to maximize sales 
  8. Adheres, maintains and trains consistent store pricing according to SVdP policies
  9. Supports promotions within store and district
  10. Ensures all training is understood and completed including according to policies 
  1. Ensures the store is safe, clean, well organized and secure. Reports potentially unsafe conditions or security violations to management. Files incident reports and all paperwork in a timely manner.
  2. Maintains all safety and cleanliness standards, follows cleaning schedule and maintaining rotational cycle.

  7. Follows all policies and procedures but possess the ability to use discretion when non-routine situations arise and reports situations to manager and HR
  8. Treats all people with dignity and respect. Works ethically with integrity and upholds SVdP Mission and Core Values
  9. Communicate honestly, clearly with compassion and positivity. Comfortable giving directions to staff and volunteers including coaching
  10. Approach others in a tactful, professional manner. Treats all with respect and compassion.
  11. Accepts responsibility for actions and inaction while working to learn from mistakes and adjusts accordingly
  12. Drive sales, donations and operations while working to train up team members in support of goals and objectives
  13. Direct and monitor operations and employee performance while reporting to manager

Physical Requirements:

  1. Twisting, bending, moving, kneeling, crouching, climbing and lifting consistently throughout shift
  2. Acute vision and hearing, with loud, bright and dark environmental conditions at times
  1. Standing on feet, in position for 8+ hours
  1. Ability to lift 30+ lbs at times
  2. Outside exposure at times including heat, cold, wind, rain and seasonal conditions
  3. Must be available on weekends; 32+ hours weekly

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Experience in cash handling, POS and customer service; including paperwork
  1. Provide effective communication, including written, oral and hands on training with clear communication in approachable, respectful redirection and correction
  2. Strong organizational skills with adaptability and understanding of unexpected events
  3. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
