Retail Software Developer information

What is a Retail Software Developer?

A Retail Software Developer is a technology professional who designs, develops, and maintains software applications specifically for the retail industry. These applications can include point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management tools, e-commerce platforms, and customer relationship management solutions. Retail Software Developers work to ensure that retail businesses can operate efficiently, provide better customer experiences, and adapt to changing market needs. Their work often involves collaborating with other IT professionals, understanding retail business requirements, and implementing security and scalability best practices.

How does a Retail Software Developer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a retail organization?

Retail Software Developers frequently work alongside product managers, UX/UI designers, and data analysts to deliver solutions that enhance the retail customer experience. They participate in regular team meetings to gather requirements, provide technical input, and ensure alignment with business goals. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential, as developers often integrate their work with point-of-sale systems, inventory management, and e-commerce platforms. This collaborative environment helps ensure that software solutions are robust, user-friendly, and meet the evolving needs of both customers and staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Retail Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Retail Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as Java, C#, or JavaScript), a solid understanding of retail business processes, and typically a degree in computer science or related field. Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems, e-commerce platforms, and databases, as well as familiarity with version control tools like Git, is highly valuable. Outstanding problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and adaptability are essential soft skills that help manage changing requirements and work effectively with cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure you can build reliable, user-friendly retail software solutions that directly support business goals and customer satisfaction.

Job description

Who We Are
At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward - always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.
The Role
Are you an experienced Software Architect looking for an exciting opportunity to shape the future of software development? Look no further than Kyndryl, where you'll have the chance to make a meaningful impact as you lead the design and development of cutting-edge software applications.
As a Software Engineering Architect at Kyndryl, you will be responsible for leading the charge in creating technical blueprints, defining product/solution architecture, and developing the technical specifications for our projects. You'll be a key player in integrating the features of our software applications into a cohesive and functioning system.
Your analytical and creative mindset will be put to the test as you anticipate trends, stay up-to-date on leading technology, and participate in Kyndryl's architectural boards. Your expertise will guide functional objectives and technologies, and you'll be a driving force in evaluating, identifying, and developing software solutions.
In addition to your technical prowess, you'll also be a strong leader and communicator, able to train and oversee the activities of our development team. You'll foster a collaborative environment and work closely with Marketing Managers, Product Managers, Programmers, and Engineers to ensure our software solutions are meeting the needs of our business and our customers.
This is a rare opportunity to work with some of the most talented minds in the industry and be part of an innovative company that is leading the way in software development. If you're ready to take your skills to the next level and make a real impact in the world of software engineering, we want to hear from you.
Your Future at Kyndryl
Every position at Kyndryl offers a way forward to grow your career. We have opportunities that you won't find anywhere else, including hands-on experience, learning opportunities, and the chance to certify in all major platforms. One of the benefits of Kyndryl is that we work with customers in a variety of industries, from banking to retail. Whether you want to broaden your knowledge base or narrow your scope and specialize in a specific sector, you can find your opportunity here.
Kyndryl currently does not require employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, if you are hired to work at a client, customer, or partner location, you may be required to show proof of vaccination to align with their respective COVID-19 vaccination policies. Those who believe they are eligible may apply for a medical or religious accommodation prior to the start of employment.
Who You Are
You're good at what you do and possess the required experience to prove it. However, equally as important - you have a growth mindset; keen to drive your own personal and professional development. You are customer-focused - someone who prioritizes customer success in their work. And finally, you're open and borderless - naturally inclusive in how you work with others.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
โ€ข 5+ years of experience of relevant work experience in software architecture; out of them 3+ years in cloud native software development or architecture
โ€ข Strong computer science fundamentals, with a focus on data structures, algorithms, and API design
โ€ข Solid understanding of end-to-end product development phases having participated in them
โ€ข In-depth understanding of development best practices
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
โ€ข Experience with one or more automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform
โ€ข Experience with containerization packaging, tooling, and DevOps methodologies
โ€ข Experience in management and orchestration for distributed federated edge K8S clusters like Helm
โ€ข Understanding of computer networking and protocols
The compensation range for this position in the US is $115,080 to $218,520 based on a full-time schedule. Your actual compensation may vary depending on your geography, job-related skills, and experience. For part time roles, the compensation will be adjusted appropriately. The pay or salary range will not be below any applicable state, city, or local minimum wage requirement.
This position will be eligible for Kyndryl's discretionary annual bonus program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Kyndryl's applicable plans. You may also receive a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical and dental coverage, disability, retirement benefits, paid leave and paid time off. Note: if this is a sales commission eligible role, you will be eligible to participate in a sales commission plan in lieu of the annual discretionary bonus program. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
