Job description

Position Overview
If you are interested in advancing your asset protection career with one of the largest and fastest growing off-price retailers in the nation, join the Burlington Stores team as an Asset Protection Field Investigator! Are you an expert multitasker who would thrive in a high-energy retail environment? Can you prioritize quickly and think on your feet to ensure safety and security standards are consistently met? If so, this may be the right opportunity for you! The Field Investigator supports the shortage and objectives of the company by directing Asset Protection investigations in an assigned group of high-risk stores. The role collaborates closely with store and field asset protection teams and operational business partners to identify, analyze, and mitigate shortage risk through investigations as well as proactive measures to minimize opportunity for dishonest behaviors. This role works closely with District Asset Protection Managers in developing future Asset Protection Investigators to mitigate theft and fraud in an effective and safe manner.
A Day In The Life
  • Direct and oversee all Asset Protection investigative processes in assigned locations. Ensure that investigations are consistent with company core values and of the highest legal and ethical standards.
  • Work closely with Burlington Investigations Center to react quickly and effectively to leads. Instilling confidence in store and field teams that shared information is used to frame a predictable response.
  • Develop relationships with store and field leaders in assigned locations. Maintain open lines of communication to ensure open and honest, two-way communication is consistently expected.
  • Execute team based, investigative deep dive methodology to address theft trends at the local store and market level.
  • Work closely with company supply chain and third-party providers to identify and resolve theft and shortage issues.
  • Develop productive partnerships and lines of communication with relevant law enforcement and peer retail investigations partners. Identify opportunities to partner to mitigate theft and fraud.
  • Work cross-functionally with Asset Protection, Shortage Control, Safety, Store Operations, HR, Legal, and the Training and Development team in coordinating investigations, training efforts, and shortage and safety program compliance.
  • Conduct trend analysis of inventory shortage, internal and external theft, and other shortage and safety indicators and craft / communicate investigative findings to key stakeholders.
  • Reduce civil exposure by partnering with field and store teams to identify and correct behaviors that are outside of policy or company core values. Adjust training methods and communication when warranted.
  • Responsible for the transition of learning into applied and practiced behaviors. Partner to create learning activities, knowledge checks and assessments to enhance learning adaptation.
  • Conduct training seminars with Asset Protection field leadership, Asset Protection Investigators, and Asset Protection Supervisors through various mediums (in store, via WebEx, etc.).

You'll Come With
  • Bachelor's Degree or 5 years of Retail Asset Protection experience.
  • Strategic understanding of the retail loss prevention and security environment with a proven record of influencing change.
  • Experience conducting internal investigation interviews and managing external apprehension programs with proven ability to successfully resolve incidents is required.
  • Wicklander-Zulawski Interviewing Certificate and CFI (Certified Forensic Interviewer) a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in training facilitation.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and accommodate deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • A confident leader with a strong sense of integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication required.
  • Functional knowledge of business tools such as Excel, Power Point, Word required.
  • Knowledge of security processes, systems, equipment, reporting tools, preferred.
