About the Role

Luxury Jewelry brand is seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to manage all aspects of financial operations. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and partnering with senior leadership to drive informed business decisions.

This position requires a strong technical accounting background, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Payroll, Sales accounting, Budgeting, and related tax compliance (payroll and sales tax).
  • Prepare timely, accurate monthly financial statements and financial analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for the annual financial statement review and income/corporate tax preparation.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Partner with senior management to develop, monitor, and analyze budgets and variances.
  • Analyze financial performance and trends to support strategic business decisions.
  • Work with Director of Operations to negotiate vendor agreements and strategically leverage
    market opportunities.
  • Optimize cash flow and forecast working capital needs.

Accounting Operations & Controls

  • Oversee accounts payable and enhance accounts receivable collections.
  • Calculate and process monthly sales commissions. 
  • Track and reconcile wholesale partner accounts to assure adherence to payment terms.
  • Manage bank reconciliations and sales tax filings.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate risk.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, including Operations, HR, Sales, and IT.

Insurance, Banking & Corporate Administration

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with bankers, auditors, insurance brokers, and key management team members.
  • Maintain corporate records, including minutes, licenses, certificates, leases, insurance policies, and related documentation.
  • Lead the renewal of annual insurance policies (auto, property, liability, cyber, etc.).
  • Work with the Director of Operations to compile information for the annual Jewelers Block insurance policy, as well as medical, FSA, and HSA benefits renewals.
  • Maintain relationships and access with the company’s credit card processors.

Retirement & Benefits Administration

  • Coordinate with the Retirement Plan administrator (Sentinel Benefits) on:
  • Employee enrollments and deferrals
  • Semi-monthly contribution processing
  • Distribution approvals
  • Annual profit-sharing contributions
  • DOL compliance and annual tax filings
  • Distribution of required participant notices

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Controller or senior accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and external service providers.
  • Ability to lead and develop accounting staff.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative, multi-department environment.
