Product Development Manager (Consumer Products)

Poo~Pourri

Addison, TX • On-site

Full-time

Job description

About Us:

In 2007, Suzy Bátiz created Poo~Pourri, a natural, effective solution to a universal problem: sh*t happens… and it stinks. Since then, Poo~Pourri has rapidly grown to become way more than just an odor eliminating product. Poo~Pourri sparked a shift in bathroom routines, a shift in how things “should” be done, and a shift in company culture. We’re a company of fast-paced rule-breakers on a mission to find new paths to personal freedom.

In 2021, Poo~Pourri busted out of the bathroom and evolved into ~Pourri: a purveyor of odor eliminators designed to make your home, body, and life smell wayyy better, naturally. Today, our growing portfolio of personal care, air care, and odor-eliminating products furthers our mission to bring levity to a world weighed down by toxic odors, stigmas, and ingredients.

Along the way, our gutsy marketing tactics have earned us numerous accolades, including AdAge’s Funniest Viral Video of the Year, Webby Awards, and more. In a world full of rules, playing it safe, and “that can’t be done,” ~Pourri doesn’t subscribe to that crap. We dream differently. Want to come play with us?

~About the Poosition

We are seeking a Product Development Manager to help keep our innovation pipeline flowing by managing new product initiatives from concept through commercialization. This role combines product development, project management, market research, and cross-functional collaboration to bring new ideas to life across our personal care and air care categories. You'll work closely with suppliers, fragrance houses, contract manufacturers, and internal teams to keep projects moving, launches on track, and product initiatives from getting stuck in the pipeline.

The ideal candidate has experience launching consumer products within a CPG environment and thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company where priorities shift, ideas move quickly, and everybody wears multiple hats. While product development is the primary focus, familiarity with product labeling, SDS documentation, and regulatory compliance is highly desirable. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, bring structure and accountability to our product development efforts, and help keep launches moving from concept through commercialization.

~THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Development & Project Management

  • Manage New Product Development (NPD) projects from concept through commercialization.
  • Own project timelines and help keep cross-functional teams aligned throughout the product development process.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, fragrance houses, testing partners, and contract manufacturers to ensure projects stay on schedule.
  • Research market trends, competitive products, retailer needs, pricing opportunities, and packaging considerations to support innovation initiatives.
  • Translate product ideas into actionable launch plans with clear recommendations around positioning, pricing, packaging, and commercialization.
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Sourcing, Purchasing, Customer Service, and external partners throughout the development cycle.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors while communicating essential information to support successful launches.
  • Review and summarize product research, ingredient information, and clinical studies as needed.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to innovation strategy and future product opportunities.
  • Track project status, communicate updates, identify risks, and proactively solve problems before they become roadblocks.
  • Help bring structure, organization, and accountability to product development efforts.

Regulatory Support

  • Support SDS documentation and product labeling activities as needed.
  • Coordinate responses to product claims, ingredient questions, allergen inquiries, and compliance-related requests.
  • Partner with external fragrance houses, legal resources, and manufacturing partners to gather regulatory information when needed.
  • Maintain awareness of changing regulations, labeling requirements, and product stewardship considerations impacting our products.
  • Support certification efforts including Leaping Bunny, Vegan, B-Corp, and other relevant programs.

~THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Product Development, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Product Development, Innovation, Commercialization, Product Management, or related roles within a Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) environment.
  • Experience supporting product development, commercialization, or innovation projects within fragrance, personal care, beauty, air care, household products, or related CPG categories strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing products from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple products, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, fragrance houses, packaging vendors, or other external development partners.
  • Experience conducting market research, competitive analysis, and identifying opportunities for product innovation.
  • Working knowledge of product labeling, claims review, regulatory requirements, SDS documentation, GHS, WERCS, SmarterX, or similar compliance programs is a plus.
  • Experience working in a small to mid-sized, fast-paced environment where employees wear multiple hats is highly preferred.

~THE SKILLS

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships across functional groups.
  • Ability to move quickly, prioritize effectively, and make decisions without getting stuck in analysis paralysis.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Analytical, resourceful, and solution-oriented.
  • Adaptable and comfortable wearing multiple hats.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal direction.
  • Comfortable managing ambiguity and turning ideas into actionable plans.
  • Customer focused (they’re still the only reason any of us have a job, after all).

Physical Demands

  • Sitting for long periods
  • Occasional travel to local warehouses and contract manufacturers
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
