How to get a restaurant job?

Some restaurants want culinary school education for people who work in the kitchen, but most offer entry-level positions such as a dishwasher, table cleaner, or food prep worker. You can use these entry-level positions to gain experience and eventually transition to another position. Some restaurants provide on-the-job training for kitchen or waiting jobs. Another option is to gain experience in a casual restaurant before applying to work in a fine-dining restaurant. To become a bartender you can either apply to become a support bar back and learn on the job, or pursue classes offered by local schools. Restaurant managers either have extensive job experience or have completed a degree program.

What are some common challenges faced by restaurant employees during busy service hours, and how can they be managed?

Effective communication, strong teamwork, and maintaining a calm, organized approach are key to managing these challenges. Many restaurants provide training on multitasking and stress management to help staff deliver excellent service even when the pace is fast. Learning to anticipate customer needs and staying adaptable can also make busy shifts more manageable and rewarding.

Job description

Chef-Crafted Food. Local Vibes. No Fuss. Just Really Good Hospitality.

West Ashley | Charleston, SC

We're bringing a fresh neighborhood concept to West Ashley—chef-driven breakfast by day, handcrafted pizza and craft cocktails by night. It's the kind of place where great food, great drinks, and a laid-back atmosphere come together. Grab breakfast before work, meet friends for pizza after, or let the kids play pinball while you enjoy another round.

We're looking for a Restaurant Manager who loves hospitality, thrives on creating energy, and believes every guest deserves a great place to relax anytime, any place with anyone.

What You'll Do

You'll lead the front of the house while partnering with the Kitchen Manager to create a restaurant known for exceptional hospitality, chef-inspired food, and an atmosphere that's both relaxed and unforgettable.

You'll:

  • Lead from the floor, engaging with guests and supporting your team every shift.
  • Create an environment where guests feel welcomed, valued, and eager to return.
  • Coach and develop a hospitality-focused team that delivers friendly and authentic experiences.
  • Ensure every plate, every drink, and every interaction reflects our commitment to excellence.
  • Partner with the Kitchen Manager to deliver a seamless guest experience from first greeting to final thank you.
  • Manage daily operations, scheduling, labor, and financial performance while maintaining high standards throughout the restaurant.

We're Looking for Someone Who

  • Has 2+ years of restaurant management experience in a faced paced, from scratch restaurant.
  • Naturally connects with guests and enjoys being present on the dining room floor.
  • Leads with positivity, energy, and accountability.
  • Builds teams that genuinely enjoy taking care of people.
  • Holds high standards for hospitality, food quality, cleanliness, and attention to detail.
  • Stays calm, organized, and solutions-focused during busy service.
  • Wants to help launch an exciting new concept and build something special from the very beginning.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Be part of the opening leadership team.
  • Competitive salary + performance bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits.
  • Paid training.
  • Career growth opportunities.
  • Help create one of Charleston's next great neighborhood restaurants.

If you're passionate about genuine hospitality, leading great people, and creating experiences guests can't stop talking about, we'd love to meet you.
