Restaurant Technology Engineer information

What is a restaurant technology engineer?

Restaurant Technology Engineers are professionals who design, implement, and maintain technology systems specifically for the restaurant industry. They work with point-of-sale (POS) systems, online ordering platforms, kitchen display systems, payment processing, and other digital tools that streamline restaurant operations. Their responsibilities may include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, integrating new technologies, and ensuring that all systems are secure and efficient. By optimizing these technologies, they help restaurants deliver better customer experiences and improve business performance.

How does a restaurant technology engineer typically collaborate with front-of-house and back-of-house teams to implement new systems?

A Restaurant Technology Engineer works closely with both front-of-house (servers, hosts) and back-of-house (kitchen staff, managers) teams to ensure that new technology solutions—such as POS systems, kitchen display screens, or online ordering platforms—integrate smoothly into daily operations. This collaboration often involves conducting needs assessments, providing hands-on training, and gathering feedback to address real-time challenges. By fostering open communication and understanding the unique workflows of each team, the engineer helps tailor technology adoption to improve efficiency, accuracy, and guest experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a restaurant technology engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Restaurant Technology Engineer, you need a solid background in IT systems, network infrastructure, and experience with point-of-sale (POS) platforms, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with POS hardware/software, cloud-based management tools, and certifications like CompTIA or Cisco are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and adaptability help you address technical issues quickly and collaborate with restaurant staff. These skills are crucial for ensuring seamless technology operations, minimizing downtime, and enhancing the customer experience in a fast-paced environment.

THE BEST-ISH BAGELS IN THE WORLD.
OUTTA THIS WORLD OPPORTUNITY.

DEEPER THAN BAGELS

Call Your Mother is the Jew-ish deli where Boca meets Brooklyn, grandma-level hospitality meets seriously good bagel sandwiches, and hard work meets face-melting vibes.

Husband-and-wife team Andrew and Chef Dani built Call Your Mother around a simple idea: make scrumptious, nostalgic food and unforgettable experiences without being bougie or taking ourselves too seriously. From our first little farmer’s market stand in 2018, to shops across the DMV, Colorado, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Miami in 2026, we’re spreading carb love all over the map and our ovens are just getting warmed up! You’ll also deliver an excellent support experience, approaching every interaction with high energy, professionalism, and a solutions-focused mindset aka our CYM’s core values; Vibrancy, Integrity, Belonging, Energy, and Seize the Moment (VIBES).

This position is based in our Washington, DC office and typically works Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend availability is required to support critical business needs and complete projects with minimal disruption to shop operations.
