Overview

The ArcGIS Online team is a key part of the ArcGIS platform that's transforming how geographic data is used and empowering users to leverage GIS like never before. As a Product Engineer, you'll design and test new features, communicate best practices for using the REST API for content management, and enhance product usability. This role offers the opportunity to innovate and make a real impact on a platform that shapes the future of GIS technology.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the front-end development team: Work with front-end developers to design, define, and optimize APIs that support key features in ArcGIS Online content items, groups, and users, ensuring performance and scalability
  • Author and maintain REST API documentation: Write and update clear, detailed API documentation, including sample code and guidelines for efficient use and integration
  • Develop and implement automation testing: Create automated test scripts to validate API performance and reliability, integrating them into CI pipelines for continuous quality checks
  • Manage software quality issues from users and internal teams: Address and resolve reported bugs, coordinating with support teams to ensure quick and accurate fixes while improving overall product stability
  • Advocate for users in product design and delivery: Represent user needs in product development, incorporating feedback to ensure features are intuitive and provide value in real-world use cases

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working in a similar role and scripting skills in Python, JavaScript, or Java
  • Experience with ArcGIS software or other geospatial technology
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and services, such as Amazon S3, SQS, EC2, and Azure
  • Intermediate understanding of web services, including SOAP and REST
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, including strong written, verbal, and presentation abilities
  • Proven ability to deliver results within time constraints, both independently and in teams
  • Effective organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies in a dynamic environment
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, computer science, or a related field
