Individual Care

1. Confirms assignments with family 2-3 days, as well as 2 hours prior to Respite visit and notifies Coordinator of Respite Services immediately of any changes or Respite assignment cancellations.
2. Uses safe and sound judgement while caring for Respite participants and maintains a clean safe environment at all times and reports incidents to appropriate people immediately in the event of a serious or life threatening situation.
3. Reports abuse or suspected abuse of participants to the Abuse Registry and to Supervisor.
4. Assist and care for children in exercising maximum independence in daily living skills. Provide necessary meals and assist children in feeding, dressing, toileting and bathing.
5. Engage and interact with child in developmentally appropriate activities.
6. Responds appropriately when seizures, injury or accidents occurs.
7. Converses with parents about child's special needs prior to them leaving home (manual, emergency numbers, medication form and administers/assists child while taking prescribed medication with parental consent).
8. Uses appropriate lifting techniques at all times; wears lifting belt and uses Hoya Lift with assistance from other staff.

Recording and Recordkeeping

1. Completes detailed Respite chronicle and returns in timely manner with timesheet.
2. Administer all required pre & post testing.
3. Records seizures on seizure sheet accurately.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Training and Development

1. Participates in training and in-services when offered/required; Obtains re-certifications as necessary.
2. Pursues professional growth by making use of professional development opportunities that would enhance Ann Storck Center's programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience working with developmentally disabled population is a plus.
3. At least one year of verifiable experience as a home health aide, caregiver, nursing assistant or other care professional; experience working with challenging behaviors, preferred.
4. May be required to have a Florida driver's license and good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Primary duties are in a home environment with moderate noise levels. Weekends, holidays and overtime may be required.

5. Must be able to handle stress of working with non-verbal, non-ambulatory clients who need assistance with most aspects of activities of daily living.
6. Must be able to deal with offensive behavior, inappropriate or offensive remarks from individuals being served and their families, and staff in an appropriate manner.
7. Must be able to separate personal issues and work issues and maintain decorum and self-control in dealing with individuals being served, their families, and other staff.
