Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Sales, North America, as Resident Engineer, you will work on-site at the General Motors Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren, MI where you will be assigned to a cross-functional site team as CTS' representative and act as a liaison for all new products and technologies. Additionally, you will identify new opportunities to generate additional business and expand our product portfolio.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Serve as liaison between the customer's engineering group and CTS with respect to all design and application issues
  • Provide on-site technical support for all customer and CTS meetings for new product development and current product applications
  • Formalize specifications for new products and/or assembly applications with respect to customer requirements, design intent, and cost-effective test methods and requirements
  • Support advanced quality planning activities for new products consistent with CTS guidelines and customer expectations (e.g., design FMEA's, design validation, feasibility studies, design of experiments, etc.)
  • Meet customer's needs by supporting knowledge acquisition for all CTS products applied to mechanical and electronic systems interactions
  • Assume responsibility for the electrical development and release of the product(s) to be supplied; where multiple programs are under contract, you may be assigned to more than one program
  • Gain proficiency in GM processes, databases and tools including the Engineering Work Order and Part Ordering system (ECR), Problem/Issue Tracking systems (PRTS, ESIMS), Part Drawing system (APM), Embassy - Pre-Production Vehicle Build Tracking system (Embassy), et al
  • Schedule and coordinate Design Reviews
  • Coordinate and manage Product Development Team (PDT) meetings
  • Prepare project plans, track vehicle timing requirements and part availability dates
  • Determine and investigate design and mechanization alternatives
  • Check 3D data and prepare 2D drawings according to design guidelines
  • Perform electrical packaging and bracket design studies; participate in Module packaging in vehicle
  • Assist with the updating of system requirements; initiate system requirement change requests
  • Resolve issues on assigned CTS or SSTS sections
  • Perform design analysis and trade-off studies; recommend additional testing and development as required
  • Provide technical direction to relevant Engineering and Support Groups
  • Support vehicle build activities, prototype availability and perform subsystem debug
  • Prepare and present issues and resolutions to GM Engineering Management and Vehicle team(s)
  • Support Vehicle Assembly Center launch of product - including preproduction launch activities
  • Perform, submit and maintain:
    • Math Data 3D/2D
    • Electrical Mechanization Drawings, Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
    • DFMEA / DRBFM for all post-IVER change
    • Assembly Plant training documents
    • EWOs for product / process changes
    • Engineering Change log
    • Open Issues list
  • Assist, review, and approve the Service Manual, Service Bulletin and Owners Manual
  • Work at the GM plant daily and attending a weekly group and one-on-one meeting with your supervisor
  • Take ownership of a key, integrated role supporting the interests of General Motors and CTS. You'll serve as the voice of the client and communicate product information, client needs and new opportunities back to CTS.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to drive new ideas and product opportunities into the customer while delivering customer requirements and methodologies back to CTS
  • Strong negotiating / influencing skills to work with the customer on their requirements and with internal teams / stakeholders on meeting those requirements
  • Experience working with electromechanical products preferred
  • Ability to travel as needed domestically and internationally

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering, product development and design
  • Experience with automotive companies and OEMs, ideally Tier 1 or 2 suppliers
  • Ability to understand customer standards, specs and requirements as they pertain to CTS products, capabilities and systems reporting metrics
  • A strong understanding of OEM product development processes
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with high levels of customer management and communicate back to CTS
