Humber River Health is preparing to launch a research institute dedicated to health services research, with the aim of transforming the delivery of healthcare in both our hospital and community settings, through the application of digital tools and novel innovations.

We are looking for an awesome Research Associate to join the team and help contribute to an incredible research environment. You'll apply your expertise to take the lead on research projects while also supporting the Research Chair in Primary Care and Population Health Systems in developing new lines of inquiry. You should be someone who loves learning new skills, teaching and helping others, and be passionate about transforming the healthcare system to improve how care is delivered. Job summary: to consult on the design and execution of research studies and analysis of research data; to provide methodological expertise on research projects; to help develop an academic culture; and to build research capacity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Make significant contributions to the design of research studies to answer questions and solve complex research problems.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on various research methodologies (i.e., evidence synthesis, clinical trials, policy analysis, qualitative research)
  • Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate research proposals, including their feasibility.
  • Work with Research Chair and relevant co-investigators to develop viable research project ideas and to turn them into well-designed research studies
  • Support Research Chair to analyze collected research data.
  • Lead/assist in the preparation of applications for grant funding.
  • Lead/assist in the writing of manuscripts for submission to academic journals.
  • Present research results at academic conferences.
  • Develop educational and training workshops on specific research methods.
  • Support family medicine residents in developing academic projects.
  • Provides ad hoc supervision/training of graduate students, summer students, and junior research support staff.

WHO YOU ARE
  • Undergraduate degree in health sciences or related field.
  • Graduate degree: PhD in clinical epidemiology, health services, health policy or related research fields.
  • Qualifications:
    • Managing multiple research projects and teams of various scopes and sizes (5 years)
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
    • Experience with reference management software
    • Graduate level training in relevant research methods
    • Knowledge & Applied Experience in Research best practices
    • Experience writing as first author in peer-reviewed, scientific journals
    • Understanding of the Canadian healthcare system
    • Collaborative, interpersonal, creative, committed to research integrity, leadership, diplomacy
    • Relationship building with participants, principal investigators, all levels of management and leadership staff, physician and all stakeholders involved in the research process
  • Preferred:
    • Expertise in qualitative research, policy analysis, clinical trials, evidence synthesis, administrative data sets, electronic medical record data, and/or other big data sets (5 years)
    • Strong data management, analytical and scientific writing skills
    • Expertise in qualitative research methodologies, clinical trials, and / or observational studies using administrative data
    • Experience with executing research studies in the areas of chronic pain, mental health, and/or substance use
