Job description

Summary:

The Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the research site through lab maintenance, data recording, and equipment cleaning. This role supports clinical research operations by collaborating with coordinators, Lab Managers, and other site staff to ensure the timely processing of participant specimens, adherence to study protocols, and overall site efficiency. The Lab Technician is a key contributor to high-quality data collection and participant care.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, label, and safely store testing samples using universal precautions.
  • Record and report tests and analyses.
  • Organize sample storage in accordance with all safety and FDA requirements.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, including performing equipment calibrations as needed.
  • Collaborate with clinical research coordinators and site staff to support participant visit flow.
  • Assist in preparing participant specimens for analysis and shipment according to study protocols.
  • Support the Lab Manager in maintaining laboratory workflow, equipment, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate lab logs, QC records, and regulatory documentation to support compliance.
  • Participate in team meetings to coordinate laboratory activities with study visit schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with site staff to ensure sample processing aligns with clinical trial timelines.
  • Provide guidance to new staff on lab procedures under the supervision of the Lab Manager.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives by providing input on workflow, efficiency, and protocol adherence.
  • Assist in inventory management of laboratory and study-specific materials.
  • Remain current on study protocols that require laboratory specifications, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure laboratory supplies remain at established par levels.
  • Process and ship lab specimens according to protocols.
  • Report issues to management.
  • Meet all study protocol requirements and deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Lab Technician or in a related position required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in phlebotomy required.
  • Proven experience in operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment, including the handling of potentially dangerous substances (such as flammable liquids and biohazardous materials).
  • Experience supporting clinical research protocols, including specimen handling, processing, and shipment strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of preventative precautions and laboratory best practices.
  • Excellent physical condition and endurance.
  • Ability to work comfortably independently or as part of a team.


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Maintain IATA certification and other on-the-job certifications as required.
  • Phlebotomy certification as required by state law.
