Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Performs quality control and assurance procedures. Records lab results in specified system. Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards.

Job Description
  • Provide quality venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders by a physician, while practicing universal precautions. Perform venipuncture with a timely and cost effective approach as deemed appropriate by this organization.
  • Responsible for accurate data entry of patient demographic information and assays ordered into all computer applications. Provide and maintain lab documents to include faxed results as specified by the organization and regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for proper processing and handling of specimens in accordance to the specific guidelines of MUSCP/MUSCP-PC or other reference laboratories. Ensure quality assurance by documenting any remedial actions and communicating information as appropriate.
  • Maintain medical supplies in accordance with cost effective parameters established by MUSCP/MUSCP-PC to perform job tasks.
  • Responsible for decontamination of assigned areas and documenting the information.
  • Attend in services and meetings and participate in committees and continuing education as requested.

Additional Job Description
Minimum Training and Education:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred.
State licensure and/or professional certification requirement/s dependent on position.
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36โ€ to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
