Job description

Hexcel is currently seeking a Research and Development Lab Technician for our Salt Lake City, UT, USA location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Operate pilot scale prepreg manufacturing lines in a R&D environment to make the next generation of lightweighting composites for aerospace customers
  • Support pilot production schedule attainment by autonomously procuring raw materials, working with support teams to minimize equipment downtime, and using process troubleshooting knowledge to produce quality material.
  • Assist staff scientists with bench scale research work including (but not limited to) resin mixing, composite panel layup, microscope imaging, and lab analysis techniques
  • Create and maintain project documentation (such as project timelines, communications, reports) and share project results in the form of presentations with internal teams
  • Train to established equipment standard operation procedures and update procedures as needed
  • Maintain the work area and manufacturing equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • At least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with composite experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve equipment and processes and learn new processes and procedures.
  • Ability to understand engineering requirements, safety requirements, standard operating procedures, and maintenance instructions.
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ability to use team collaboration software (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint).
  • Work well with others in a team environment, with dedication, integrity, initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel in different groups in both written and oral forms and ability to carry out written and/or oral instructions and procedures.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to manipulate data according to algebraic methods. Ability to handle unit conversion. Basic understanding of statistical principles of mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and confidence intervals.
