The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director, Research Data to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Research Data designs and implements programs, projects, and studies to further the institution's research goals and objectives. Further, the incumbent strives to achieve consistent performance, good clinical practice, impeccable regulatory compliance, and audit-ready research operations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies problems or inadequacies and proposes and implements solutions.

  • Takes full advantage of available resources to improve service to faculty.

  • Anticipates timelines and analyzes requirements to accomplish projects.

  • Oversees faculty and ensures compliance with guidelines, protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Supervises department budget, and, in collaboration with upper management, allocates resources and establishes controls.

  • Maintains working familiarity of ongoing studies and tracks and organizes data.

  • Preserves current knowledge of clinical research data management, guidelines, best practices, and relevant regulations.

  • Devises recruitment strategies, develops standard operating procedures, and implements training programs.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions

The Director, Research Data provides strategic leadership for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center's research data, reporting, and analytics infrastructure, with primary responsibility for Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) data coordination, clinical research reporting, and cross-cutting data governance in support of NCI designation and institutional strategic priorities.

This role serves as the central integrator of research data across clinical trials, basic, translational, and population sciences, ensuring accurate, timely, and auditready data for internal leadership, federal reporting, and external advisory and accreditation processes.

Key Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Leadership
    • Directs the collection, validation, analysis, and presentation of all CCSG-required data elements, including membership, funding, clinical trials accrual, shared resources, and program metrics.
    • Partners with Cancer Center leadership, Shared Resource Directors, and program leaders to ensure accurate interpretation of NCI guidelines and consistent application across reporting cycles.
    • Oversees preparation of CCSG RPPRs, competing renewals, site visit materials, and ad hoc data requests from NCI and institutional leadership.
  • Strategic Planning & Leadership Support
    • Provides oversight of Strategic Planning administration, including monitoring and tracking of strategic plan progress, reporting to executive level leadership, and providing the framework for the development of future Strategic Plans.
    • In partnership with the CCSG Manager, develops executive-level dashboards to provide support to leadership for presentations and analyses for decision-making, and institutional planning.
  • FACCA Administration
    • Ensures timely submission of reports required for the Florida state appropriations.
    • In collaboration with the Sr. Director, Department Planning & Operations, provides support for annual budgeting and contracting processes with the Florida Department of Health.
  • Research Data Management, Strategy, & Governance
    • In collaboration with Sylvester IT, establishes and maintains standardized data definitions, processes, and quality controls across research data sources, including clinical trial management systems, research evaluation systems, and internal tracking tools/dashboards.
    • Leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce manual reporting burden, improve data reliability, and increase transparency for faculty and administrators.
    • Ensures compliance with federal regulations, institutional policies, and audit requirements associated with research data management.
  • Collaboration, Engagement & CrossTeam Integration
    • Collaborates actively with peer leaders and direct reports to ensure alignment across research data, strategic planning, reporting, and operational functions.
    • Engages consistently with team members across the departmental structure to support coordinated planning, shared accountability, and efficient execution of initiatives.
    • Contributes to a collaborative team environment through regular communication, joint problemsolving, and knowledgesharing across functional areas.
    • Supports integration of planning and priorities across related teams to reduce duplication and strengthen alignment with Cancer Center objectives.
  • Team Leadership & Operations
    • Leads a research data team encompassing data management functions and external reporting.
    • Recruits, develops, and mentors staff, establishes role clarity, and implements training programs to strengthen institutional data literacy.
    • Provides strategic oversight of clinical trials data, including NCI CTRP reporting, interventional accrual metrics, and alignment with CCSG requirements.
    • Works closely with clinical research operations, IT, and data management teams to resolve data discrepancies and optimize downstream reporting workflows.
