A Research Compliance job involves ensuring that research activities comply with institutional, regulatory, and ethical standards. Professionals in this role develop, implement, and monitor policies related to research integrity, human and animal subjects protections, data security, and funding regulations. They work with researchers, regulatory bodies, and legal teams to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to guidelines. This role is critical in maintaining the credibility and legal standing of research conducted within an institution.
To thrive in Research Compliance, a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (such as IRB, FDA, and HIPAA regulations), research ethics, and policy development is essential, often supported by a relevant degree in health sciences, law, or a related field. Familiarity with compliance management systems, electronic research administration tools, and professional certifications (like Certified IRB Professional, CIP) is highly beneficial. Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills help professionals collaborate with researchers and ensure adherence to ethical standards. These skills ensure research activities comply with legal and ethical requirements, safeguarding both institutional integrity and participant welfare.
Research Compliance professionals are responsible for reviewing and monitoring research protocols to ensure regulatory and ethical standards are met. Their daily tasks often include conducting compliance audits, maintaining documentation, providing guidance to research teams, and facilitating IRB submissions or renewals. They regularly collaborate with researchers, administrators, and legal teams to troubleshoot compliance issues and deliver training. This role requires staying current with evolving regulations to help organizations mitigate risk and maintain high standards of research integrity.
