Job description

Job Title: Research Associate

Job Description

As a Research Associate, you will perform and assist with technical procedures on study and stock animals, ensuring compliance with established protocols and standards. Your role involves clinical observations, specimen collection, and data management to support research studies in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols to perform procedures on study and stock animals, including clinical observations, feed monitoring, body weights, urine collection, blood draws, administration of treatments, euthanasia, catheter placement, and injectable sedation/anesthesia.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions as per SOPs, protocols, and daily schedules.
  • Record, enter, and review raw data related to studies and facilities.
  • Set up procedures and maintain ancillaries for study animals.
  • Operate selected laboratory equipment such as glucometers, infusion pumps, digital thermometers, and balances.
  • Monitor and report changes in animal behavior or health, and address issues with animal rooms, including caging, lights, and temperature.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Monitor and report study changes to the study director and appropriate personnel.
  • Review and provide input on the creation and revision of SOPs related to animals, technical procedures, and facility issues.
  • Perform husbandry duties.
  • Engage in cross-training opportunities in other departments.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with vivarium operations and animal restraint.
  • Ability to perform technical procedures and operate laboratory equipment.
  • Experience in specimen and data collection on laboratory animals including mice, rats, canines, and non-human primates.
  • Compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
  • Support study supervisors and directors in sample and data collection for research studies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS in a scientific discipline preferred.
  • Experience working with animals in research or a regulated environment preferred.
  • ALAT certification preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Project, InfoPath, and Access.
  • Ability to adapt to new software and projects.
  • English proficiency for reading and interpreting documents, writing reports, and correspondence.
  • Basic math skills for scientific reasoning.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally on process improvements.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Capability to manage change and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

*The position is primarily based in a vivarium environment with 90% of work involving animal samples. The role requires adherence to safety standards and protocols while working in a dynamic and collaborative setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Everett, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
