Regional Retail Manager
Location: Southeast MI
Pay: $34 - $47.50 per hour
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
About the Role
At The Salvation Army Thrift Store, your work helps turn donations into funding for programs that support people in our community. This position combines retail leadership, financial management, and mission-driven work to maximize net revenues that support our life-changing ARC Program. Lead a dynamic retail operation while making a meaningful impact in your community.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership & Administration
  • Develop and implement comprehensive business, strategic, and financial plans to increase net revenue
  • Conduct detailed sales and productivity analysis with actionable forecasting
  • Provide Key Performance Indicator (KPI) evaluations and strategic recommendations
  • Lead marketing strategy development and implementation across all stores

Financial Management
  • Partner with finance department to create and manage multi-store budgets
  • Monitor monthly budget reports and identify areas for improvement
  • Guide store supervisors and managers in expense control and scheduling optimization
  • Oversee purchasing and tracking of Goods Purchased for Resale (GPR)

Team Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise Regional Manager 1 and Store Managers
  • Conduct monthly leadership meetings with store supervisors and managers
  • Ensure compliance with all TSA Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Support corrective action processes with proper documentation
  • Approve bi-weekly payroll for all store personnel

Store Operations Excellence
  • Set and monitor product acquisition, production, and sales goals for each location
  • Coordinate delivery schedules and inventory management across stores
  • Provide Level 1 technical support for Point of Sale systems and resolve operational issues
  • Conduct regular store inspections to ensure branding standards and operational excellence
  • Oversee implementation of safety, security, and Safe From Harm Guidelines

Program Integration
  • Collaborate with ARC Director for Rehabilitative Services to maximize work therapy opportunities
  • Support beneficiary success through strategic store assignments and training coordination

Property & Strategic Growth
  • Oversee property maintenance coordination and OSHA compliance
  • Evaluate expansion and contraction opportunities with TSA Leadership
  • Manage lease renewals and property-related documentation

What You Need
Required
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, retail sales, or marketing preferred
  • 4+ years of staff management and development experience
  • Thrift store management experience strongly preferred
  • Combination of education and relevant experience considered
  • Valid Driver's License with ability to drive on behalf of The Salvation Army

Essential Skills
  • Excellent English communication skills for leadership and field personnel interactions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Exceptional people development and management skills
  • Strategic thinking with attention to operational details

Schedule Flexibility
  • Available for flexible scheduling including early shifts, late shifts, and Saturdays
  • Ability to work some holidays as needed
  • Willingness to transfer between store locations when required
  • Regular travel to multiple store properties

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach regularly throughout the workday
  • Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Clear vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and focus adjustment

Working Environment
  • Retail environment that may include varying noise levels, dust, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Regular travel between store locations and attendance at required training sessions.
