You must have completed the initial 4 hour training or
Possess a current or expired Teaching Certificate issued by a State Governing Agency such as the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Lamar County Pays $60 GED through 3 years of college. $70 for Bachelors Degree or higher.
Georgia Department of Education Rule number 505-2-.18 - SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS Governs the training of Substitute Teachers.
(1) Definitions
Substitute teacher - an individual employed to serve in the absence of the regularly employed teacher.
(2) Requirements
(a) Priority shall be given to persons with the highest qualifications. The qualifications are ranked as follows:
- Possession of a valid or expired professional teaching certificate (or letter of eligibility for the same) based on a baccalaureate degree or higher;
- Completion of a baccalaureate degree or higher;
- Completion of at least one or more years of postsecondary training beyond a high school diploma ranked in order of number of years completed;
- Possession of a high school diploma;
- Possession of a GED certificate
