Summary:
The Sr. Engineer IV - Solar Engineering provides solar PV performance and design expertise on utility-scale solar and solar plus storage projects during the development, design, construction, and commissioning phases.
This role will be hybrid requiring a minimum of 3 days in office.
Requirements:
  • Serves as a lead Solar Engineering subject matter expert for internal departments, including development, procurement, construction, commissioning, and engineering (civil, electrical, SCADA, and engineering delivery).
  • Leads the evaluation and resolution of complex technical issues with clients, developers, engineers, procurement, subcontractors, and construction. Communicates material risks and recommendations to leadership.
  • Drafts, reviews, and approves contracts, exhibits, scopes of work, and technical documentation related to design, energy yields, commissioning, testing, and performance.
  • Leads analysis of plant and equipment performance using SCADA, MET, inverter, tracker, meter, and DC collection data to identify underperformance, data-quality issues, and likely root causes.
  • Develops and maintains engineering data structures, equipment hierarchies, mappings, and validation workflows that connect design, commissioning, SCADA, and performance information.
  • Leads technical roles with clients, internal leadership, and procurement on technical items that inform commercial design decisions related to risk management.
  • Coordinates engineering priorities, assignments, subconsultant activities, and progress to maintain project schedules, quality requirements, and conformance with contract documents. Leads technical feedback to clients and subcontractors based on the review of external design documentation, including design basis, overall site plans, energy models, contractual exhibits, and performance test results.
  • Works closely with clients and construction teams to guarantee delivery of a quality PV system that meets contractual expectations.
  • Generates and responds to design RFIs related to design and project performance.
  • Leads the creation and continuous improvement of team templates, tools, processes, scripts, calculators, visualizations, technical specifications, analysis methodologies, test procedures, and standardization and automation of workflows.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the solar engineering team.
  • Coordinates with Development on preliminary layouts, technology assessments, and basis of design. Drafts, reviews, and approves standard processes that impact team templates and workflow.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
  • Provides support to construction during the construction and commissioning phases.
  • Reviews work instructions periodically to ensure compliance with industry and client standards.
  • Develops new methods and standards for Group design activities.

Safety:
  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field of study required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 8 or more years of progressive experience, including utility-scale PV engineering and technical expertise related to site feasibility, energy modeling, major equipment selection, and site layout is required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 5 to 15% required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license.
  • Strong oral and written skills.
  • Technical writing: Drafting reports, papers, and assessments to a high standard
  • Ability to communicate issues and to communicate complex technical issues to peers across internal departments, suppliers and clients, and a non-technical audience as required.
  • Clear and concise writing.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work. Project management and time management skills, including balancing multiple Projects under tight deadlines and establishing and maintaining good relations with internal team members and clients.

  • Advanced /Expert level Knowledge in:
  • PV plant performance analysis, energy modeling, expected-versus-actual evaluation, uncertainty analysis, and regression methods.
  • Engineering review of equipment hierarchies, design drawings, SCADA tags, data mappings, and large time-series datasets to support performance diagnostics and project decision-making.

  • National and international codes and standards applicable to PV design, construction, commissioning, and testing, including NEC, NFPA, ASTM, IEC, IBC, ASCE, and NETA requirements. PV Electrical Design

  • Ability to lead the team on risks and opportunities for incorporating new technologies into PV designs and performance modeling.
  • Experience with Design Software:
  • Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • PV simulation software PVsyst,SAM, PVfarm, and Solar Resource Compass
  • Global Mapper or GIS software
  • Python-based data analysis and automation, including processing, validating, visualizing, and reporting large engineering and time-series datasets.Statistics including uncertainty analysis and regression models.
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Functional competencies include accountability, attention to detail, customer focus, prioritization, and continuous improvement.

Anticipated base salary range: $127,000 - $158,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
