Job description

Are you interested in supporting the legislature? Do you like working in a fast-paced dynamic environment? Senate Reprographics provides in-house, full-service print shop support to the California State Senate. The Graphic Designer position creates projects submitted by various member offices, which also includes printing to a wide array of print devices including high-end image setters, large format printing to plotters, and high-end four-color process printing in a PDF workflow environment.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Senate Reprographics and the Production Supervisor, the Graphic Designer is responsible for working with the clients to create their design within set deadlines.
DUTIES:
The candidate is required to create, design, update, and edit graphics for jobs submitted by Senate staff which includes, but is not limited to, brochures, mailings, tables, charts, covers, graphics, letterhead, business cards, business forms, displays, reports, and flyers.
The candidate is required to utilize an industry-standard Mac-based environment that includes InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat. Work responsibilities include scanning, editing, cropping, and saving via pre-existing file photos for archiving. Graphic design also entails creating and proofreading electronic files for output on various printing publications.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
The candidate must possess thorough knowledge of Mac design software as mentioned above. Skills and knowledge are to include, but are not limited to, page layout, color theory, and typography.
They must hold a comprehensive understanding of principles and techniques of design such as line, shape, texture, space, size, value, color, balance/symmetry, and proportion/scale.
The candidate is responsible to assimilate ideas and concerns from a variety of customers and use design and production elements to convey the desired impact to a specifically targeted audience.
They must possess strong writing and verbal communication skills, be capable to work independently and in a team environment easily.
Additionally, they are to prioritize tasks, work within tight deadlines, be self-starter and hold excellent customer service skills.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree or Certificate of Graphic Design from an accredited or recognized professional institute in the program areas of graphic design, art design, visual communications, or computer graphics is preferred. Verification of your degree or certificate with the completed application is required.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance .
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours or weekend work.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience is required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
