Job description

Senior Sensor Modeling Software Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sensor Modeling Software Engineer to join the Special Projects Dallas (SPD) P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft Advanced Airborne Sensor (AAS) team in Richardson, TX.

At Boeing, our software engineers use their expertise to dream up next generation's software capabilities for some amazing aerospace platforms. The Boeing SPD AAS team provides the mission systems software that runs on the P-8A to provide the warfighter the ability to perform mission and tactic planning, interface with the sensor, display sensor data to the operator, and replay missions. The team also provides the capability to train fleet operators on the AAS mission by adding high-fidelity simulations to the baseline P-8 Training system. In this role, you will execute the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, system integration, and maintenance support for the P-8A AAS Training Systems contracts.

The candidate must be comfortable working independently in a challenging, fast-paced environment. This position requires extensive collaboration with other teams and the customers, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate will support the training devices in Richardson as well as retrofitting the training devices at customer sites.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the design, architecture and development of simulation models, simulation visualizations, virtual environments/platforms and frameworks to enhance performance, safety and durability of software and hardware systems throughout the entire product life cycle

  • Focuses on performing and leading complex sensor modelling efforts

  • Partners with stakeholders to advise on the review and identification of simulation requirements and dynamics of the systems being simulated

  • Oversees design, modeling, simulation, testing and analysis to assess and optimize overall system performance and capabilities.

  • Reviews data collection and processing for use in simulations

  • Analyzes results from system test execution of performance testing and documentation of test results to ensure software system requirements are met or exceeded

  • Oversees validation, verification, and refinement of simulation software code, models, simulations, test procedures and test environments, executing test procedures, documenting test results and modeling against real-world data, test data, benchmarks, or other similar models.

  • Reviews the documentation and maintenance of technical code, algorithms, specifications and descriptions of simulation model

  • Partners with cross functional engineering teams to advise on integration of simulation software with hardware devices and systems

  • Oversees implementing current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and methods in the software engineering simulation environment

  • Oversees modernizing, migrating, sustaining, and updating simulation software to adapt legacy systems to new operating systems

  • Oversees simulation software project management functions.

  • Advises management and influences internal practices on a wide range of topics related to the software engineering simulation environment

  • Represent Boeing in the program science community and with external stakeholders

  • Delivers risk-reduction and early-development influence to preserve and grow Boeing's position on a competitive program that may yield significant new business

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations

  • Tracks and evaluates the software team performance and industry-partner participation to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards

  • Trains and mentors' others

  • Works under consultative direction

BasicQualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

  • 10+ years' experience in software development

  • 5+ years' experience using Java

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience

  • 10+ years' experience with development of Java, C/C++ and/or Linux Operating Systems

  • Experience in AGILE/DevOps methodologies

  • Experience in Real-Time Algorithm implementation

  • Experience in Development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, interfaces and designs for software systems
