Multiple U.S. locations: Ohio | Virginia | Texas | South Carolina | North Carolina | Arizona | Missouri
Sperton Global AS, a global recruitment and consulting firm with entities across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, is partnering with our client, a global leader in power and technology, to hire a Remote Field Service Engineer - Data Center for their U.S. Service team. This is a full-time, field-based role requiring up to 85% travel to customer sites, supporting data center power transformers and high-voltage substation equipment.
Role Overview
The Field Service Engineer will cover one assigned region. The role involves delivering technical field assignments including installation, commissioning, diagnostics, maintenance, and integration of power transformers and high-voltage substation equipment. The position also includes advanced troubleshooting, software/hardware setup, protective relay testing, and direct customer engagement.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver on-site and remote field service for power transformers and substation equipment.
  • Install and integrate transformer hardware, sensors, and accessories.
  • Configure and test transformer software (licenses, firmware, connectivity).
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for customers and subcontractors during projects.
  • Conduct field tests using Omicron relay test systems for protective relay testing.
  • Work with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and reporting standards.
  • Prepare detailed service documentation and technical recommendations.
  • Travel up to 85% within the assigned region, with remote/home-based work when not traveling.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with power transformers or high-voltage substations (>69kV).
  • Proven experience testing protective relays using omicron test system or equivalent.
  • Background in data centers or other high-reliability environments.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, relay diagrams, and test results.
  • Familiarity with test equipment: CB timers, power factor testers, CT/PT testers, TTR, and Meggers.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship).
