Work EnvironmentDesigning, implementing, troubleshooting wireless networksManaging and maintaining overall network infrastructure
Employer & Industry UsageTelecom, large enterprises, ISPsCorporate IT, healthcare, education

The Remote Wireless Network Engineer focuses on designing and troubleshooting wireless networks, requiring specialized certifications. In contrast, the Remote Network Administrator manages overall network operations, often with broader certifications. Both roles are essential in maintaining secure and efficient network environments, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Wireless Network Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Wireless Network Engineer, you need a solid background in wireless networking protocols, RF engineering, and a relevant degree such as in computer science, information technology, or electrical engineering. Familiarity with tools like Cisco Prime, Ekahau, Wireshark, and certifications such as CWNA or Cisco CCNP Wireless are typically required. Strong problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective communication skills help you manage projects and collaborate with distributed teams. These skills are crucial to ensure secure, reliable wireless network performance and successful support of users and infrastructure from a remote setting.

What are Remote Wireless Network Engineers?

Remote Wireless Network Engineers are IT professionals who design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot wireless networks from a remote location. They work with technologies such as Wi-Fi, cellular, and other wireless communication systems to ensure secure and reliable network connectivity for organizations. Their responsibilities often include configuring network hardware, optimizing wireless coverage, monitoring network performance, and addressing security concerns, all while providing support remotely. These engineers use specialized software tools and remote access solutions to manage networks without being physically present on-site.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Wireless Network Engineers, and how can they be overcome?

Remote Wireless Network Engineers often face challenges such as troubleshooting connectivity issues without on-site access, coordinating with local teams for hardware interventions, and ensuring network security across distributed environments. Overcoming these challenges typically involves using advanced remote monitoring tools, maintaining clear communication with on-site staff, and staying updated with the latest security protocols. Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability are essential, as is proactive documentation to streamline remote collaboration and minimize downtime.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer P2P based in Netherlands.

This is an opportunity for a highly skilled software engineer to contribute to the development of next-generation decentralized technologies.
You will work on building resilient peer-to-peer systems that redefine how data discovery and communication can operate without centralized infrastructure.
The role focuses on advanced networking, distributed architectures, and high-performance systems designed for global-scale usage.
You will collaborate with talented engineers and researchers to transform complex technical concepts into production-ready solutions.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about decentralization, distributed computing, and pushing the boundaries of modern software engineering.
You will have the opportunity to influence core technologies that enable secure, private, and unstoppable digital experiences.

Accountabilities:

The Software Engineer P2P will contribute to the design and implementation of decentralized search and networking technologies, focusing on building scalable, reliable, and high-performance peer-to-peer systems.

  • Design, develop, and maintain next-generation peer-to-peer infrastructure supporting decentralized search capabilities.
  • Build resilient distributed systems without reliance on centralized indexes or traditional server-based architectures.
  • Develop high-performance and highly concurrent networking solutions using Node.js and modern distributed technologies.
  • Work on distributed indexing systems and implement solutions based on advanced research concepts in decentralized search.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of peer-to-peer network protocols, including connection management, reliability, encryption, and NAT traversal.
  • Design, test, evaluate, and improve network protocols to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Apply knowledge of distributed databases, CRDTs, and decentralized data structures to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Improve search technologies through expertise in information retrieval concepts, ranking algorithms, indexing strategies, and semantic search approaches.
  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to evaluate emerging technologies and translate ideas into robust software solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of decentralized application infrastructure and peer-to-peer technology.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a technically curious and hands-on engineer with strong experience in distributed systems, networking, and building scalable software solutions.

  • Professional experience developing software with Node.js and a strong understanding of backend engineering principles.
  • Passion for peer-to-peer technologies, decentralized architectures, and distributed computing.
  • Experience with or strong knowledge of Kademlia Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs).
  • Understanding of distributed indexing concepts and relevant research areas, including skip graphs, prefix hash trees, locality-sensitive hashing, or similar approaches.
  • Experience working with distributed databases, CRDTs, or decentralized data structures.
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, transport-layer reliability, multiplexing, NAT traversal, and encryption.
  • Understanding of search engine architecture and information retrieval concepts, including ranking algorithms, inverted indexes, recall versus precision, and semantic search.
  • Experience writing high-performance, concurrent, and reliable networking code.
  • Ability to analyze, test, and optimize network protocols and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with decentralized technology stacks and peer-to-peer frameworks is a strong advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, research mindset, and ability to turn complex technical ideas into practical implementations.
  • Excellent English communication skills for collaboration in a global engineering environment.
