Job description

The Banner System Administrator is a key member of the SIP Management Team within Information Technology Services, responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of the Banner student information system. This role ensures Banner operates reliably, securely, and in alignment with institutional goals and evolving business needs.

Reporting to the Director of SIP Management, the Banner System Administrator collaborates closely with project managers, business analysts, functional and technical teams, integration specialists, report writers, trainers, and subject matter experts. The role supports the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of Banner and related system integrations, overseeing system configuration, data processing, security, third-party tools, upgrades, and administrative functions. The primary focus is to maintain a stable, high-performing system environment while delivering effective technical support and continuous system improvement.

This position is based out of the universityโ€™s home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30 am โ€“ 5:00 pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to perform the essential functions of this job (e.g., Laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.ย 

Duties and Responsibilities:ย 

โ€ข Provide administrative support for the Banner SaaS ecosystem, including Banner core modules and integrated platforms such as Degree Works, CRM Advise, Smart Plan, and other related cloud-based solutions.
โ€ข Configure, maintain, and optimize Banner SaaS applications to support institutional academic, administrative, and business processes.
โ€ข Support and administer Banner extensibility and integration capabilities, including working with APIs and system integrations to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable operation within the Banner SaaS environment.
โ€ข Collaborate with functional and technical teams to coordinate Banner configuration and extensibility initiatives, ensuring alignment with Banner SaaS standards, institutional governance, and compliance requirements.
โ€ข Administer system security, including user roles, permissions, and access controls, to protect sensitive institutional data and comply with security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
โ€ข Monitor system performance, availability, and integrations to ensure stable and reliable operation across Banner and related SaaS platforms.
โ€ข Provide technical and administrative support by troubleshooting and resolving system issues in a timely manner to minimize impact on end users.
โ€ข Maintain system documentation, configuration standards, and operational procedures in alignment with Banner SaaS best practices and institutional policies.
โ€ข Support audits, releases, upgrades, and change-management activities associated with Banner SaaS and integrated cloud platforms.
โ€ข Perform additional related duties assigned to support institutional technology initiatives

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered.
โ€ข Three (3) or more years of experience in system administration, systems analysis, or enterprise application support, preferably within higher education, ERP, or SaaS environments.
โ€ข Experience supporting Banner extensibility capabilities, including configuration and administration of integrations and APIs within a Banner SaaS environment preferred.
โ€ข Demonstrated experience supporting Banner core modules and associated administrative processes.
โ€ข Demonstrated experience supporting Banner-related student success and advising platforms, including Degree Works, Smart Plan, and CRM Advise.
โ€ข Experience administering Banner SaaS or other cloud-based enterprise platforms, including system configuration, monitoring, upgrades, and vendor-managed release cycles.
โ€ข Strong understanding of systems analysis, business process evaluation, and the downstream impacts of system configuration and integration changes.
โ€ข Working knowledge of information security best practices, including role-based access controls, data protection, and regulatory or compliance requirements.
โ€ข Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system and integration issues, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality service in a collaborative environment.
โ€ข Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
โ€ข Flexibility to support alternate work schedules or after-hours system support as operational needs require.
